Open or Closed Beta?
Hello!
I love your your work so far. keep up the good work! I couldn't find anything in the faq or on the forums so im asking you: will the beta stage be available to all players or just to a exclusive limited amount of players? If the Beta will be a closed one, why will it be closed and not an open beta like for example the counter-strike betas back in the day? |

Well I saw this in the faq:
"When our mod approaches beta phase we will release details of a beta testing programme on these forums. So stay tuned get involved and you'll have more chance of becomming a beta tester when the time comes. " But i'm not sure whom this testing programme is given to. If the Amount of people is limited, how many betatester will there be? |

Well, that paragraph says pretty clearly that it will be closed. As for how many, that's probably something they'll decide when the time comes, if they do it at all.

I'd imagine enough testers to fill a (or two or three...) closed server at all times. With diverse enough computers to report all kinds of fun stuff.
I can't really speak on the 'staying involved' bit, though... the dev's innuendos are too well hidden for me to discern. But in the belief that they are all nice... I really don't know. |

Haha, this thread makes me laugh on more than one level, for a reason a dev knows . Yes I'm bragging here.

Open beta's get more bugs spotted but you get so much extra hassle. Closed beta (like the testing we did on DoD:S before Valve redid it all) testing worked much better, a group of 30-40 guys around the world. All played together at set times and posted the bugs in the forum. You didn't have 300 people going:
"ZOMG THIS LIGHT IS NOT STRAIGHT LOLOLOLOL!!1111eleven!!!" Personally I think closed testing is better, whilst you might not find all the bugs, the big ones will be caught and its much less stress on the devs. |

I think a closed beta with FF dev and PHL staff is required.

Ha! I can brag too. After like my 3rd post on these boards one of the admins said something like 'looking out for people like me when the beta comes around'.
This gives me official dispensation to sit at the 'cool' table. Also, welcome to the boards! Doyooo! |

d00dz, I got asked for beta before I even posted! They came to my house and were like, 'man, you're so great will you test our game when its done?' So how could I turn them down?
But n1ght, they'll probably do a short closed beta to get everything done right before they open it to the public. Knowing these guys, they'll be playing it day and night once they get it anywhere near completion (if they aren't already) and will find tons of bugs just on their own. |

If you aren't currently testing then you can assume you haven't already been asked.
