I actualy did know that but was hoping not to get things complicated. I know my college is on a kick-ass fast conection. However, other conections on the way could be much slower, thus decreasing speed. Or, as you said, it can just woner around until it finds it's target.

There is nothing on your computer that can change the routing your packets take. That is dictated by the network and the gateway you're attached to and each successive larger network you connect up through.

That's where my skepticism comes in. Short of having their own special server farm with optimized servers and an optimized connection on the server end there is not alot they can do.

And lets clear up the "Gaming Router" bs. All those have is a user friendly QoS interface so downloading/web browsing won't spike your pings by maxing your bandwidth. All Linksys routers sold now include this functionality and most don't cost 50 bucks extra. :P

mirv's got it right. It all just seems like "Hey! Lag isn't cool! Let's fight it!" and then they just throw vague information around. I don't think we'll see a decrease in lag unless we get rid of our copper infrastructure and replace it with fiber.

Well source routing exists but there isn't a single router out there that would accept to forward a source routed packet.

No I think that the card must generate anti matter based packets that arrive at their destination before they are sent and will thereafter cancel out all preceeding actions that would have been going to take place after you didn't take your own action first.
