once upon a time i was up to date with technology...that day passed some time ago.

my buddy is paying me to build a system for him..i can build a system with my eyes closed..im just not sure what to buy or is a good buy atm.

My cash limit is 600, I'm going AMD, and i prefer to get my parts at new egg or tiger direct.

Here's what I came up with...looking for comments and please feel free to rip my list apart and call it poo poo if u can point me in a better direction.

TBH, it's hard to make a build with current technology on your budget.

If you're going to go AMD, I'd at the very least, pick up a socket AM3 if you want to be 'current'. You're also skimping on your PSU, and perhaps overspending on your graphics card. GTX 460's draw *a lot* of power and make *a lot* of heat, and with that case, your circulation might not be enough to keep your video card under wraps (too hot). If I were you, I'd get a better PSU, go with AM3, and maybe pick up ATI's new 6850 gfx card.

For the cost of maybe another $200, you'll have a system that will last a lot longer than your current proposed build.

Newegg is practically throwing away the 200 series nVidia cards - I know the 280's were their top shit when that was all they had, maybe you can catch one of those for less than $100.

Also, the ATI counterparts are going for decent prices too. I know this only because I get their daily mailer and dig through it for gits and shiggles.

Speaking of - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...14161338-L010A

HIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 for $129, or $99 with rebate.

puppychow, with $600 you can easily build a nice gaming rig.

I would head over to www.anandtech.com on their forums and ask them for their advice, they are super helpful, friendly, and keep up to speed with all things technology and helped me build my current system with is blazing fast.

I would say don't skimp out on a PSU or a GFX card though. Depending on what games and things this will be used for will depend on how much CPU you will need. Coem in IRC and I'd be happy to show you a few options. irc.gamesurge.net #ff.pickup
