Lightbulb Novell Networking...

So a friend of mine and I are taking a "LAN Management" class at our local CC since it's a requirement to move on to higher classes in the computer science major...

The class ends up being so damned boring we end up playing DotA or Starcraft during class, and sometimes in my case, UT3... Well, either way, even when we are fucking around playing games, surfing the net, etc; our teacher will ask us questions, like any teacher would when they assume people are fucking around - except we actually give him the the correct answer about 90% of the time, usually getting it wrong if the terminology was off, ie: logging on vs logging in.

Anyway, this last class meeting on thursday night was a bit of a doozy... our school runs on a Windows-based network, while our class has it's own little Novell network that runs in the classroom only, and we have to connect to it via VMware.

So... my friend ends up being unable to access the Z drive, the drive required to do the work in class, and while i'm helping a confused classmate, my friend comes over to my workstation as it had access to the Z drive. He loads up the command prompt, where all work needs to be done, and ends up deleting the Z drive, and thus the entire server NOS...

Long story short, we may not be in the class for much longer...

Who would give students admin rights to a network that couldn't be restored?

Every system we mess with can be re-set with a button.

I was just thinking about that in comparison to the network I can mess with at my school. I was thinking about deleting it, because the syllabus says we can(I can't find the wording, but I know it was either my networking class, or my UNIX class, since they have the same teacher), and seeing if I'd either get in trouble for it, or if they could restore it.

Mind you this network is setup for this classroom only, but anyway, at first he only gave us limited access. He wanted us to do the work assigned in the book, but all of that required admin access but he didn't want to take the time to go through the permissions and set them appropriately so he gave us all access to his admin account... not a wise idea.

I dunno if I feel sorry for you guys. Looks like you were dicking around and not taking anything seriously, then you fucked up bad and have to pay for it. Sounds about how things should happen, really.

How does one ACCIDENTALLY remove a drive?
And what kind of system is running that it can't just be re-mounted?
Did her reformat it or something?

Oh, I know. But the two of you have been dicking around all semester. It's somewhat of a vicious cycle. The circle of dick, if you will.

The client workstations are running in VMware, the server is not. The server doesn't run in a VM at all. Hence, no re-mounting.

Meh, it's not like I don't understand what's going on in class... despite dicking around, I still pay attention... multi-tasking isn't that hard. Though the general population at school would disagree...

The city DOT here in Tucson still uses Novell. I took the novel admin class as part of my degree/certificate at the local cc. It was a cake walk. The instructor made the mistake of not changing his password at first so one kid got on, made himself an admin and started screwing with stuff. I messeged him, even though he was right next to me and told him to knock it off. He was about to change settings on my account when I saw him doing it and told him he was gonna be hurting if he did.

Either way, novell is silly and out dated. no point to it. I dont know why anyone would use it. It's just silly.

Sounds more like a Novell tree. I remember making a new account at my highschool which used Novell, being able to apply the rights of an admin (mirroring or some shit) to it and seeing everyone elses homework. garbage anyhow

Lawl, Novell ftl.

I don't care if you didn't do it, still your fault for letting another classmate do your work for you or your friend. Grow up a bit, pay attention in class, it's not that long. And if you were paying attention (FULLY), you could of avoided stupid mistakes.

(Goes to School for 8+ Hours a day - I have the right to bitch)
