Oooo I see .. thats grenade_napalmlet .. wtf .. is that the weapon name for the grenade on it's initial explosion, then grenade_napalm is the burn affect?

When the napalm explodes, it splits into 4 flaming balls (like a mirv). Those are the napalmlets. Don't know how it splits the deaths between the two though.

  • you could type "sm plugins list" in the server console and see if there's a line like " 17 "HLstatsX Plugin" (2.6) by TTS Oetzel & Goerz GmbH" (Though this is only the part of the hlstatsx script on the side of SM.

I really think this is a bad idea for FF. It seems to me that pubbers dont need yet another reason to forget about the objectives of the map. If this could be modified to take ranks off of fortress points instead of K it would definetly be alot better. Offensive players really get no boost in their rankings for capping the flag 9 times a round but dieing 50+ times, which is dumb.

On the topic, K should just be removed from the scorebaord entirely. Just have it as fortress points.

Very good points. Different games have different objectives and there is no one size fits all.

One solution to this for FF is to make kills not worth much, and to increase points for capping flag/objective points.

We cannot do this currently as FF does not log captures in version 2.1 (from what I hear, much more is being added in 2.2). This could be tracked via an edit to the ingame plugin, but I feel it's wasted effort as 2.2 will have this. You could even make kills worth nothing, and have it based entirely on caps if you wished. Depending on how good the logging becomes, you could award points to all cappers involved in addition to the whole team. Or for capture the flag, points for flag picked up, flag defended, flag capped (for individual and/or team), etc.

We are always looking for suggestions on how to improve.

Right now Fortress Points are not logged, so there is no way to.

Addendum to my last post...

We cannot even edit the plugin to track flags and caps since there are no game events raised for it in 2.1.

Hopefully 2.2 will solve much of this.

Some people have been asking specific questions about in-game and player profiles.

Here are the answers, as well as on the HLX page this is all documented and available in-game by typing help.

Setting Player Info

Player profile options can be configured by saying the appropriate HLX_SET command while you are playing on a participating game server. To say commands, push your chat key and type the command text.

Syntax: say /hlx_set option value.

Acceptable "options" are:

Sets your Real Name as shown in your profile.
Example: /hlx_set realname Joe Bloggs

* email
Sets your E-mail Address as shown in your profile.

5. My rank is embarrassing. How can I opt out?

Say /hlx_hideranking while playing on a participating game server. This will toggle you between being visible on the Player Rankings and being invisible.

Note You will still be tracked and you can still view your Player Details page. Use the Search page to find yourself.

You make some great points. I do agree with you. However, as a strictly defense player, I believe you should hear my (our?) side. Heck, I’ve been a defensive TF’er since 2000(?).

We don’t get much love in the terms of Fortress Points. We get like 100 points per kill… which is what everyone gets. There are also points when you kill a person with a flag, but I cant remember what they are. We protect the flag from the other team, don’t get thanked or noticed, and move to the bottom of the score board.

The fact of the matter is: It’s a lonely world when you’re a defensive player.

For instance, if you’re a mid defensive player, you’re the first line of defense for intruders. You take as much health from all players before you die, making it easier for the backfield defensive players to take them out. You relay everything you can to the backfield defensive players, incoming spies, enemies, everything. If one gets by, you stop anyone else from going in and make sure the person that snuck through can’t get back out.

So is the K|D ratio bad for FF? Not necessary. I believe to the average pubber, it makes them want to improve their skills so their K|D doesn’t suck. Online gaming has always been about K|D. Flag captures only matter in matches and those on offense.

As a defensive player, I often reference to my K|D ratio and how many times they’ve captured the flag. If, for some unknown reason, I am the only one play defense and there are 6 people playing offense… I can try to make sure they don’t get the flag, but it’s highly unlikely I would be able to stop them. I’ll try to take out half before dying. What does this give me? 3|1 ratio. If I can hurt them so maybe some oblivious offensive players see them, maybe we can stop them from capturing, but its unlikely.

I find it quite a common situation where, as a spy or something stupid like an engineer, I would walk past a medic or a scout and they would just look at me and ignore me. Why? They only care about having sex with the flag. So I would venture into their bases, unharmed, full on grenades, and reap havoc on their defense. Why? Well, because the lack of mid defense and people who COULD help stop people entering their base just ignore them because they would rather pump themselves with the other flag.

Stats will always track kills, deaths and pointage you based on K/D ration. In the future, when FF's logging becomes more advanced, which is currently in the works, HLX will be able to track all the things that currently give you Fortress Points and be able to more accurately rank you based on "Fortress Points".

Currently it just does not exist in the mod to be able to track that, HLX is able to track such things and is already set to do so, we just have to perfect the logging in FF.

I do agree though, that the stats and ranks should be based off more than K/D.

PLUGIN UPDATE 10/16/2008

Please download the new hlstatsx plugin from the link in the first post (or here) and overwrite the old plugin on your server.

The zip also includes the source in case you want/need to compile the plugin against your own SM build.

Yeah, the only functionality this has (regarding FF) over the previous version is that it will add a log line when changing class in the form of

L 08/22/2008 - 19:34:40: "psychonic<20><STEAM_0:1:4153990><Blue>" changed role to "Soldier"
The backend of the stats then runs with this and can keep track of kills, deaths, etc., per class.

Might have another plugin update in the next couple days (whenever i have time to add&test) to log the building and destruction of objects (sentries, dispensers, etc.) properly. The stats can then use these as "actions".
