Earthquake in Indiana?

Didn't know that was possible, or at least on that scale. Guess I skipped geology class too much.

If you noticed in the article, they mentioned the New Madrid Fault Zone. Now, if you watched the History Channel at all, you'd know this is a place for a potential Mega Disaster.

It can happen anywhere. Just less commented on due to less frequent seismic activity. Nevada is typically flagged as being the 3rd most seismically active state in the US. Personally I think it's the collective case of the heebie jeebies from being so damned close to the People Republic of California....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "Ill" Illinois? And isn't Chicago in Illinois? The epicenter was in Illinois, not Indiana.

Some people in Des Moines felt it. I felt nothing where I'm at.

Yeah I heard about it throughout the day. There was a small tremor here (Ohio County, Indiana - about as far southeast as you can get in the state). I didn't feel anything, myself, but I was asleep. A few over-dramatized it - shit falling off walls, etc. - but for most of this area nothing was particularly bad.

I was actually one hour north of it.............

since I was down in Central IL for corporate today. It was pretty strong I heard but honestly I didnt feel a damn thing and slept through it all. My wife felt it in Chi town and freaked out since it shook the whole house. There was two middle sized ones and a bunch of tremors through out the day. The madrid fault I think starts in Madrid City, Missouri and it is FU$%ING HUGE..........the earthquake in like 1885 from that point made the quake in 94' in San Fran look like a joke in total size. That is what you get from sitting on a granite slab. I blame the US navy since they are always sending communications through it in their Indiana base. Yeah I know...........A huge Navy base in the middle of Indiana..........but yeah its true.

True, but I'd still say it was in Illinois, but could be felt in Indiana, since the epicenter was in Illinois.

There was no tremor there Circ, you just have to lay off the Three Bean Tacos from 7-11.

A friend of mine lives in Chicago and was in his basement and the marble shook. To quite him "Solid rock should NOT be vibrating like that."

I don't remember feeling it.

They're Chili Cheese Burritos from the Taco Bell, and you will respect them.

I felt the first quake and then an aftershock a few hours later. I live about an hour NE of Indianapolis. My first thought was it was wind shaking the house (much more likely in this part of the country!) but then there was no wind. Epicenter was just over the Illinois state line.

EDIT: Plate Tectonics is a myth.
