FF get a namecheck by VALVe

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=335#more-335

Quote:
RPS: What do you think of Fortress Forever?

RW: I think they did a great job. We swapped emails, we tried to give those guys a bit of help. And hopefully we’ll get them up on into a Steam Friday update.

CB: They definitely did a lot of work. A lot of maps ported.

RW: I know how hard it is to get a bunch of people spread around the internet to finish anything. Let alone a product that’s good. I think those guys should be really proud of what they’ve managed to pull off. Personally, I hope they build something else now, and hopefully it’s their own. They’ve got a really good team.

RPS: Their timing couldn’t be much less fortunate, could it?

RW: That was purely accidental! As I say, we swapped emails with those guys. I’ve swapped emails with some of the developers, and I think we’ve all been embarrassed about the way all of our fans assume that we must hate each other or something. I wish we’d organised ourselves a little better. Everyone’s working, so no one’s paying a lot of attention to what anyone else is doing. But right out of the gate, I think they’re the biggest non-Valve mod, with the most players. They’re beating Gary’s Mod. I know that’s not traditionally a multiplayer game but it has a lot of players playing online at any point. They’ve done really well.
Here's hoping for that Steam News inclusion

Oh a steam news would be awesome! Free advertisement!

Also, Valve isn't heartless :O jk

Edit:
RPS: And you got right to work?

RW: We had this laundry list of features we had that we wished we could have done in Quake. So we spent the first couple of months making Half-Life into a platform that was good to mod. We did that for a couple of months as contractors, and then Valve bought our company out, and we’ve been here ever since.

RPS: And it’s been a long time. What have you been doing since then?

RW: Oh, nothing.

xD

Neat, but notice how he used the word "hopefully" so you cannot hold him to it. Like if I was a rich guy, I could say "Hopefully I can give a million dollars to charity this year." Even if I do not plan on doing so at all, I can still say "hopefully" just to sound like a nice guy.

And the timing was accidental, huh? Quite a coincidental accident.

Hopefully you post more conspiracy theories in the future.

And by that I mean stop posting forever.

Very interesting indeed, thanks for posting. One little bit caught my attention:

That suggests to me that they completely missed the point of FF, and perhaps its greatest strength. FF has been made by ppl who love actually playing TF (or what I used to think of as "TF" before TF2 came along), who made FF because they wanted to play it themselves. This love for the game will keep it developing and improving for many many years to come, and also let the devs really understand the game's strengths/weaknesses/balance from the player's perspective.

Actually, I think they're just saying, based on the quality of work involved and the amount of time and effort put into the entire project, that they would really like to see the Devs make something else because it would probably kick a lot of ass.

Or something.

Anyway, yay free advertisements. And stuff.

It would be nice to see news post on Valves site about FF

Plus:
Someone post info about TF2 on http://slashdot.org/ and the second post was for FF so you may see a bit of traffic.

Wow, your sarcasm is both witty and fast.

And by that I mean amateur.

now, i would not say it would be a "failure". look at some of the OTHER concepts of TF2. the army-fied one, the sci-fi almost a NS clone, complete with res nodes. would you rather have that shit, or the current TF2?

I think it would be cool to see a the traditional Valve vs. FF Devs in a FF match. They do it with most popular mods. Shacknews (I think it was them) had a TF2 match with some of the Valve guys a few days ago.

Maybe this will put some of these damn kids on this board in check. Its ok to love both games. TF2 doesn't have to be a curse word here.

I haven't saw a third party mod in a news update in awhile so hopefully they'll advertise a lot of stuff at once. Perfect timing since a lot of people are going to be buying the orange box at stores and will play HL2 for the first time. Would be very good for the mod community as a whole.

"and hopefully it’s their own"
That part makes RW sound a little bitter, imo.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this one of the original authors of TFC? If so then I don't think its bitter at all.
