Regarding error messages and game mode selections

Hi,

Couple of questions regarding Fortress Forever.
  • After I start a server (Windows based) I get a lot of error messages with regard to certain "Materials" that cannot be found. Is this normal behavior or did I do something wrong? I did an "hl2mp" install from HLDSUpdateTool and put "FortressForever" in the root folder. Made a "server.cfg" and put in the in "/cfg" folder. For example (the list is about three times as long, I've cut a few error messages that looked the same):

  • What's up with the following piece of code?

  • What about the different types of game modes? Is "Capture The Flag" (CTF) the only and default option at this time? If not, how to you select other modes?

  • Does anyone have a list of the most important server variables? Things that we server administrators must set to a specific value for correct operation. Also, the same question but then related to game play variables. I saw the following variables in a logfile: mp_prematch, coop and deathmatch. Looks kinda important to me. A list of such important variables would be greatly appreciated.

  • It's been a while since I've played Team Fortress Classic. I don't know what the most popular maps are. I'm planning to run two servers, each with a two map map cycle. What do you guys expect the four most popular maps to be?

  • I've set the tickrate to 33 as recommended. But is it okay to have a server framerate of let's say ~ 512 FPS?

  • So far I've compiled the following server configuration. It's pretty basic and I've used the template of our public Counter-Strike: Source servers. Comments or suggestions are appreciated. Perhaps this will also help some other people getting started.

  • The startup errors can be ignored. They are mostly just caused by a client-side material proxy not being found on the server, which doesn't matter (the proxys are just used to render things on the client, the server does nothing with them)
  • Omni-bot is intentionally not included with the release version of the game. It is unfinished. That error can be ignored.
  • Game modes are map-dependent and defined by the map's Lua file.
  • There are very few important server variables that relate to actual gameplay (other people could probably give more information about server optimization). mp_timelimit, mp_friendlyfire, and mp_prematch are probably the most important.
  • The default map cycle included with FF should be pretty decent.
  • 66 tickrate is optimal
