I agree. Something that feels primarily like it was intended as a melee weapon shoots a bit too far.

From my experience with homemade flamethrowers (backpack, pump, gas, supersoaker, etc).. Flamethrowers ARE NOT MELEE WHATSOEVER
They set EVERYTHING on fire for a good 30-40 feet. Just a stream of pure mayhem with an orange hue. Its simply too much power for a single man

that is why this is a game and that is real life simple really. also in combat real combat 30 to 40 feet is pretty close range with the advancement of guns being as accurate as they are.

I mean, I want serious answers here. Who here would really be that dissapointed if we just got rid of pyro?

all jokes aside.. i am against removing or even nerfing the pyro in any way. the pyro is the ultimate newbie class that keeps new people wanting to play the game. nobody wants to conc or bhop anymore these days. people want to burn shit to the ground, hear people scream in agony as burning skulls approach them like fullspeed trains.

The reason most people don't play Pyro is because it is broken and frowned upon to play. Same goes with the Sniper class. I vote always to NEVER remove a class, but to try to FIX the class instead. I believe the Pyro can play a vital role in this game. It just needs to be FIXED and the suggestions I made could potentially help with fixing the class so it would actually take some skill to do real damage to a player with his arsenal.

I would definitely play Pyro/Sniper more often if both classes were fixed.

Obviously the values I set out could be edited if too powerful/not powerful enough, but removing a class from the game is never the answer.

Most things in life that are difficult are usually worth it in the end. Now give us ideas that are insightful instead of just taking the easy way out and saying it needs to be removed.

I still don't see why it's a cop out. Pyro is hated in every fortress game, why can't we be the innovators that get rid of it. We could even replace it with a new class.

Look the worst part about the pyro is the fucking fire. How do you fix that? You don't. You can only rework the class until it's not a pyro anymore.

Afterburn is fucking stupid. So is staring at people with your flamethrower. No arbitrary set of rules is gonna make it fun to play against.

Just because it's hated in every fortress game, does not give a good enough reason to get rid of the class. That just means the Pyro has just not been done correctly. TFC Pyro was too weak. FF Pyro is too OP, and TF2, well with all the hundreds of items you can have for all the classes, some of the Pyro weapons are actually good ideas, but implemented poorly by being able to use any of those items at any given time if you have unlocked the items.

I can argue the BEST part of the Pyro is FIRE, not worst.

Afterburn is FINE, it just needs something to help combat it such as speedy movement = lowers the duration or amount of afterburn. Hitting someone with a flamethrower where it does not reach a percentage high enough would mean Afterburn would not happen to you.

So there, that's 2 ideas that would definitely improve Afterburn.

The only difference between getting pwned by a Soldier and getting pwned by a Pyro is weapons and skill level. As a Soldier, it can be more difficult to learn how to predict an enemy's movement so you can fuck someone up with the Rocket Launcher. With Pyro, you just go up to them with flamethrower and it does damage. BUT, it can still be NO FUN getting pwned by a Soldier over and over again. Any class can be a nuisance to play against with the right skill level. The Pyro just has a low skill ceiling to master as opposed to the Soldier, which is higher.

Fixing the Pyro so it takes more skill to kill someone or do enough damage to them so that it matters would be a much better idea than removing the class.

Removing a class has never been an 'innovation.' It is only a COP OUT. Taking the easy way out. If at first you don't succeed, try again. You can't just simply give up and FDA, and that is exactly what you are talking about doing. You've given up on the prospect or hope that anything could be done to make the Pyro a class that would be a benefit to this game. Instead you'd just rather get rid of him altogether. You are wrong.

I assume you're assuming that qwtf/q3f/etf players hated pyro too? that's not taking in account all the unreal fortress spinoffs, i have no idea about those.

sounds like another person, who can't handle dieing in an FPS...

the problem is the devs haven't fixed the pyro rather just ignored it and this is what happens when you ignore a class that has a problem. It gradually works it way out of the game. pyro should and can be balanced and reintroduced into the game. without the pyro what counters the spy... nothing? there is no effective way to weed out spys without them and frankly that is part of the reason why fortress games have an intricate balance between its 9 classes I think removing 1 has costly effects to game play. like if we removed hwguy we have to rebalanced everything to fill the void it leaves. instead of just balancing 1 class.

also just note i would miss the pyro not how he is in ff but rather his presence on the battlefield.

Spy is countered by sentry gun (while cloaked) and people who have powers of observation and awareness.

Nobody addressed my post at all. So let me make it short and sweet.

4 offensive classes. (up from 3)
Remove flamethrower, give him jetpack.
Pyro fixed, made more fun, and Cachalot cries. Win-win-win, am I right?

I don't support adding a new class. Instead, I propose making something out of the civi class. Give him a tommygun, sawed off shotgun, remove the umbrella and give him a stiletto.
