For those who are too lazy to look around, this is posted on the web site:

Quote:
Half-Life 2: Episode One will be made available at retail outlets everywhere and via Steam on June 1, 2006.

However, Episode One may be pre-purchased at retail outlets now and via Steam beginning May 1, 2006. If you pre-purchase your copy via Steam, you’ll save 10% off the $19.95 price. Please visit your local retailer to inquire about pre-purchase promotions in your area.

In Half-Life, the G-Man made you. In Half-Life 2, he used you to defeat Dr. Breen and start the Resistance. In Episode One, he's lost control.
Das coo.

Or you could just go to another city....

god I hope it's not Xen.

and yeah, $20 for 5 hours is ridiculous. I might say the hell with it and just go buy Oblivion. I'm sure they'll release all the episodes together discounted eventually anyway.

I'd rather pay $20 for 5 hours of fun/exciting gameplay, than $50-60 for 8-13 hours of mediocre gameplay. I'm looking at you, Doom 3.
Really, a lot of games these days are just padded to get to the required "size"

For another comparison:
HL2 cost $50. I don't really remember how long it was, but I think around 13 hours, max? so that would be, basically $3.85 / hr of gameplay. This expansion, assuming 5 hrs is correct, would be $4 / hr. Not bad, and especially so, if you believe what they said about about the expansion having more exciting pacing. HL2 did drag, at times.

Keep in mind that VALVe had spent approximately 5 years building the HL2 engine, creating new textures, models and sounds from the ground up. In which case $3.85 an hour does not sound half as bad, as charging $4 an hour for extra maps, models, textures and sounds.

Regardless of which, I don't find 20 dollars to be that high a price, especially considering most games today aren't half as interesting as HL is.

I think they should make people pay because they need money to run. They are doing us a favor by making HL2 we arent doing them a favor by paying.

Half-Life 2: Episode One features a new single player experience, plus two multiplayer games.
That's from the "official" website. But it doesn't mention what the two multiplayer games are. Richochet 2?

Yeah, I'll probably get it. Like you guys said, at least with Half-Life you know it will be quality. As for new models, textures, locations, etc., I dont' see anything in the media pics that looks 'new'. I guess that's part of the reason I'm less excited about it than I want to be.

you also have to remember they are releasing HL1DM:S with Ep1...so there is some added stuff to it (as well as HL2DM). $20 is well worth the price of Ep1.
