Anti-Spyware

okay so i just figured out the nortan that came with the computer is only a fucking trial so all it does is scan and not remove.

Does anyone know off a decent spyware thats free... maybe even a torrent?

I have no money, my mom just bought a dog, a 500$ ring and a snowmobile, and she has no money to begging with. Any help would be apreciated.

The best anti-spyware is your brain. Failing that anything you add will slow your system. If you want to have some stuff in place I'd download and install (where necessary):

Spybot Search and Destroy (Free)
Ad Aware (free)
Windows Defender (free)
Combofix (free)

There's probably a few more....but that's a good start.

This one is less known... but seems to be able to take care of some spyware that most others can not: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
For antivirus I use avast! Free and light-weight.

Won't the Norton installed on you computer be an all-in-one type protection. Like Norton Internet Seurity? Antivirus, antispyware, firewall etc. I don't think they do just a stand alone anti-spyware product.

Norton is just flat out bad news as is McAfee. Even with Norton's claim that it's now putting a much lower load on the system it's a bad move.

Mmm hmm.

I just use Avast and Windows Firewall. And like you said my brain.
I will scan with Ad-aware once in a blue moon is I suspect something.

Currently trying out ESET Smart Security atm though. I don't think I need the whole protection thing so may just use their AV.

I use avast on one system and avg free on the other.

For a firewall, Comodo is free.

Use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware generally weekly.

Oh, and throw in Ccleaner for a nice system enema.

Spybot:

Avast:

AVG:

Comodo:

Ccleaner (aka crap cleaner):

I personally doesn't touch AVG... But I'm a fan of avast.
DO NOT TOUCH NORTON. All there solutions are. McAfee, however makes a nice product... but for a home user you're better off with a free lighter-weight option (like avast).

Also, is this for you or your mother?

I use NOD32 and Spybot, but my router also filters out a lot of bad stuff.

I use Kaspersky, because every year in April/May Amazon has a discount where I get it next to free. Coupled with Spybot, I haven't had problems in years.

Best - Brain
Anti-Virus - Avast!
Anti-Spyware - Spybot S&D. Ad-Aware to pick up leftovers from Spybot.
