Great film.. definitely going to visit the cinema now and part with some hard earned cash. The inclusion of Leonard Nimoy worked brilliantly and I'm sure it will set the franchise up to make many more millions yet again over the coming decades. Originally i felt some degree of reserve to this film even being made due to me being old enough to remember the originals on TV. I suppose that's the other trait of old age, thinking that things will never be as great as they were the first time round.

I loved it. I didn't hear much about it other than watching the preview, so I didn't know what to expect, but I was wowed. I can't wait to see some of the other characters take some bigger roles in future films, because you know they left that shit open ended.
I actually kinda started getting annoyed at all the commercials where he kept saying "FIRE EVERYTHING" but by the time it got to that part, I'm glad it was something where he was panicking about annihilation instead of just being an asshole and doing some overkill shit on the enterprise. |

It was nice to see how The Romulian Effect changed history from ship design to who ended up doing what. It was also nice that Spock make it seem like an alternate reality... I don't remember what he said exactly, but it seemed like they didn't want to negate everything that had originally happened. It was all definitely given to break away from star trek lore and allow a new series of movies to be written without being held back. Without "fixing" the timeline, anything can happen now.
Only thing that bugged me was Sarak. He'd never have admitted or had emotion, and nothing in the new timeline would have realistically changed that. Scuzzy

My opinion before seeing the movie:
I've only seen the few trailers released on TV, and an older one(the first) internet trailer/teaser. With that in mind, I'm not really hip to some of the actors choices for this one. I'll reserve FULL judgement until I see it..... but a few choices don't sit well with me(particularly Scotty and Chekov). Spock doesn't really LOOK like Spock, but I think he's closer than whoever is playing Kirk. I realize this is supposed to be a "alternate reality" story(heard that from a friend who has seen it)..... and I can see where this is the only way they could make this movie and not completely alienate the original series' fans(such as myself.... and in the way Ron Moore did with Battlestar Galactica). I'll add my comments about the movie AFTER I've seen it... which will probably be in a few weeks, if it's still in the theaters.

Pretty shitty Star Trek movie. Pretty awesome movie, pretty shitty Star Trek movie. The ending did go from utterly shitty to just horrible though once they had Leonard and the original theme going. Seriously though, they fucked with time, and didn't really fix it at the end, even though they had the capability to, and rewrote the whole beginning of the franchise. It's really not something you should do, ever. So this goes to prove that, once again, prequels basically are never true to the original. Besides which, a little bit of a spoiler here, Uhura is way too much of a whore in this movie.
There, right thread finally.

It would be pretty pointless just to mimic the entire series. They needed to do something original. What they did gives them a lot more openness and I think they really stayed true to the Star Trek imagination.
The quibbling about actors is pretty unfounded. I think they all did a superb job.

While I may have a few minor quibbles, I loved this movie. Much better than Wolverine, and it's a movie that truly needs to be seen on the big screen.

i was really disappointed. why on earth did they even have to totally bin the entire story, using this "alternate reality" bs?
