It doesn't matter where the ideas come from or if they had them first. They made FF and everything is still balanced. NeoTF severely unbalanced TFC, and while it was all new and fun (for like, a week) most things in it really sucked. Hover boards, super powered engy sentry guns next to a normal one, fucking choppers and cages. wtf. no. I'm not holding you back but I am predicting it will be as whack as neoTF was. and the majority of people don't like that. |

Yes, seriously. Neo TF was absolutely terrible. Just plain bad. For every decent idea there were about 10 terrible ones. Just terrible.
Bad. |

Sucked*
Right? it's sorta over now? But for the record, I loved it. It was different. I didn't find it un balanced because I really could be any class and have a good time. I never found any straight normal class to be impossible to play against. The only thing I think they could have worked on was implimenting less ideas. But still I like it quite a bit. (This may be because I was a forum mod and tester/server admin for a little while... but still me likes them) |

I undesrtand NeoTF took some hard woork to do. But I still hate it.
Luckily they aren't going to do it for FF. If you want to do something of your own, learn how!. |

NeoTF was hilarious fun. It saddens me to see so many knock it senselessly. As for accusations of imbalance many (but not all admittedly) of the features had counters. For example, the powerful soldier remotes (my personal favourite) were summarily thwarted by SAM sites. MGs were defeated by remotes, snarks and the ring of shadows. The ring of shadows was in turn stifled by trip and landmines, etc...
Many of the features for me revived a game that had become all too familiar and dull, and I'm certain that I'm far from the only person this is true for. I earnestly regret that Spanner has chosen not to create a sequel for this mod. |

yep, neoTF...i had much fun on those servers. I think girlpower server had something similar called adminop. something like that. I dunno if its a good idea to integrate it into the FF distribution. But as a 3rd party mod for the FF, that might be a good direction, and also help the transition over to FF for fun mod players. I remember the pyro being the flag capper instead of the medic in neoTF.

I honestly played NeoTF quite a bit back in the day.. it had some really neat, and fresh features.
I just don't want to see too many servers with altered gameplay just yet.. FF is still a baby in terms of public play.. I'd rather it got older before it begins that radical Teenager stage. |

Enjoyed the multiguns myself. Nice change of pace around the time I was started to get bored of TFC. Even supported NeoTF with Foxbot. Good gadget fun. Nobody can deny they've thought about the potential of additional buildables and such. Some of it went too far imo, but it was still a fun new twist on the game.

Considering all the infantile ranting about Neo on these forums, (2 different MODs started by BillDoor and all that) I think I was quite restrained. Don't you agree? Oh, and I forgot one: Like the Scout Scanner, the Spy Invisibility feature never made it from Quake TF to TFC, until BillDoor...yada. Quote:

Hell, no one else even imagined that someone could make a BOT do a conc/rocket jump in TFC. Until someone I know figured that out. Pushing limits...sometimes its a good thing. BTW, Heya Dr. E, long time. Where the Hell is RedFox anyway? |

I think balance in NeoTF came down to the way the server could be setup. The Old Timers Clan ran NeoTF as our main server for 2 years, that server was #1 in the world for NeoTF for pretty much that entire time. We kept it extremely limited, but allowed the added fun for every class. We weren't one of those places that engineers could make 10 multiguns, only 1, etc. We occasionally tweeked it, like adding more armor for the user of a jetpack on pyro, etc. It allowed us to fix some of the balance issues Valve created and really add a good element to the game.
I have found the elements of NeoTF that were incorporated into FF very cool (which I recognized prior to Spanner's pointing them out). I think people who didn't like NeoTF are somelike the people who may not care for bhopping... can't do it right so you don't like it? Scuzzy

Invisibility has been a game mechanic since D&D. Scout Scanner has been used by the worlds military forces for years before TF was even a sparkle in anyones eye. Who gives a shit? Quote:

Enjoyed servers that had NeoTF restrictions, NeoTF added hella features which you had a choice of what ot use, or how much of something a player can use. [o-t] and Axls had it down for balance and everyone can enjoy NeoTF, people couldnt abuse an ability because of hte limitations. And as was mentioned earlier, there is a counter to everything ability, like can steal enemys MG, or disable grenades if in range of the pod. Demoman had trip mines, if you were paying attention can evade them before the player responded to det them. I do not get why people have to be disrespecting, i know some are obviously kidding(not talkin about that). If you dont like something dont have to put it down, still enjoy that fact that everyone is not you, there will be somet hat agree but also respect the game, because for one was a lot of hard work, and was playable and enjoyable. Most of hte people that didnt like it was the ones that can do more than run and shoot, so they get frustraited at havin extra abilities that they cannot grasp or learn to control. The mod wasnt for everyone, doesnt mean have to disrespect it. Yes granted was a lil frustraited myself at some points, but instead of runnin i got even. All it takes really. I was one of those people who was a SaberDisk Bitch with the demoman, sometimes was cheap but fun and could still be took down before capping.
Now im rambling, ramble ramble ramble. |

I implemented the sentry gun stealing feature of the spy before I joined the FF team. I was COMPLETELY unaware this feature was going to be put in FF. 1. It was NOT my idea to put "capturable sentryguns" in FF. 2. I did not write the code in FF for the sabatoge. So you are wrong again. Quit acusing me of stealing everything, like you NeoTF guys like to do so much. And as far as stealing the MG capture for sentryguns, MG capture is completely different then "sentrygun capture" as you call it. First of all, did NeoTF have the ability to capture sentryguns? No. Can any class capture a sentrygun by simply touching it? No, the spy had to be sneaky and catch the sentrygun when the owner was not paying attention to it. This was a lot more skillfull then accidently touching an enemy MG because one of their grenades launched you towards an inert MG. But yeah, I probably stole the code to switch sentrygun owners from NeoTF too. Even though NeoTF couldnt do that. I'm glad I use subversion. HAVE A NICE DAY. Oh, and Spanner. You connected to a server that was running ExtenTF 38 times, and spent 6.4 hours playing on that server. That is, if you are STEAM_0:1:100830. So obviously, you probably familiarized yourself with my sentrygun stuff, and you probably know for a fact that it's not the same as the "MG capture", but you claim it is for some reason. I confirmed this by reversing the SteamID to a friend id: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197960467389 Last edited by voogru; 10-18-2007 at 07:08 AM. |
