Mouse problems.
So. Ive been having this problem with my mouse lately. It is specific to games, and only certain games.
L4D, and COD4. No other games have this problem. I will be going along fine, and then my mouse locks up. Nothing leads into it, nothing is the same, it just does it. I can still type on my keyboard, and everything else still works. Hell, the lights on my mouse still light up, and pulse as they should. I can alt-tab out and work my way into device manager with my keyboard and my mouse is still recognized. I have to restart to get it back. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, which actually locks my computer up entirely. If I do this ingame, I get the repeating noise bug. Ive tried uninstalling, and reinstalling drivers... every version. I've updated the firmware. Nothing. Tried using a diff mouse. No worky. Did this with my old mobo as well, so not the USB, also tried using different USB ports. No Worky. All drivers for everything is up to date, bios are updated as well. Specs. Gigabyte P45-UD3R - Mobo Intel Dual Core 3.0ghz OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 GeForce 8800GTS EVGA 600W PSU Thermaltake Mouse: Razer Lachesis Keyboard: Razer Lycosa |

You have the issue with differen mobos and mice?
Then it's probably some type of software issue. Running anything in the background? |

I actually downgraded my firmware because I thought there was a problem with the mouse4 and mouse5 buttons. Seems that was hardware and the downgrade didn't fix it. However, now if my comp crashes/locks up and I restart, I have to unplug my mouse in order to get it to work again. Goes to show what firmware can do.

Hmm that is very odd. Well, since you can't narrow it down further than that, it could be possible that both mobos had an issue. Try using a USB to PS2 converter and see if it still locks up. If so, it may be your USB controllers on your mobo.
It could also just be the games themselves, you tried reinstalling the games too? |

I've had no issues with SP3.
I have SP3 on my laptop (which can't do much at all) and I have no problems. No SP3 on my desktop because there is no SP3 for 64-bit XP |

I'd try to uninstall sp3, uninstall mouse drivers/firmware, then reinstall sp3, then redownload/install the drivers/firmware and see if that helps. |

After a quick google I'd say it's a USB controller issue on your motherboard, partly caused by Razer firmware... Try to reinstall USB controller drivers or the drivers that came with your MoBo WITH YOUR RAZER UNPLUGGED then download new razer drivers and update the firmware, see what it does. |

Get a new mouse, that's my suggestion.
I've had the lockup problem for awhile, but my mouse was only about 6 months old. I get a new mouse, and it doesnt lock anymore. *edit* Eh. Might help if I read the whole post. Never had it lock up completely and not come back. |
