My main gripe is the disparity of avd maps between mappers, some feel that gameplay should be fast, some feel it should be slow, and the community is split on it. If this is going to be somewhere we're going to focus attention, we need to set ground rules, so we can focus on balancing for the gametype by designing our maps in a way to take advantage of the tools the players are given.
For instance, I would design areas with lots of slopes and corners, because I feel scouts should spawn with jump pads. Some disagree, and their maps will reflect this. |

Yeah, I get what your saying Mono. It's a bit of a bitch...
I'm all for trying to get a concensus on the matter and, more importantly, provide the dev team with effective and balanced feedback on this (something I freely admit I've never been great at). Especially from people who enjoy the gamemode over others, which is a source of feedback I feel FF has always lacked. In fact this was an ulterior motive behind the formation of FF.AvD. But not in this topic. If I make a start here, it'll likely turn into a ball of flames what with some of my opinions on the matter... I'd rather keep this thread as clean as possible.

I'll be interested in this once the next patch is out. One question, though.... will some CTF maps be used in that capacity? One team attacks while the other defends? Gentlemen's agreement, of course.... no need to go re-doing maps or anything.

Very unlikely, given as the main reason I formed the group is as a reaction to the fact that pretty much only CTF maps are played in FF, for people who aren't fans of CTF gameplay.
Find me a CTF map that is actually fun to play like that though, and we'd consider it I guess, at least until we have a decent selection of AvD maps.

A couple of maps were edited(in the beta, I think) to a second version that closed off one base to the other team... in an effort to promote that kind of gameplay. I can't remember which ones were done, though. Obviously, it would have to be the smaller maps for it to work right. I'll look into it, and get back to you. In any case, I enjoy a good AvD map(though, not dustbowl)... and there is also the new I/D maps that are going to be released with 2.4. Those would probably do well in the rotation.
Not trying to be an ass... but I've gotten used to the movements in it.

Yeah, I remember reading that now you mention it. I remember someone tried something similar with 2fort for TFC... can't say I thought much of it myself, it still played like a CTF map though I will have a go of the maps released, see if it was just a 2fort thing.
And no worries, I understand what you mean about 2.4.
