It's a shame people have to take such offense to a shape. Especially one that is very efficient for housing complexes. That shape gives residences on all sides of the apartment block a courtyard/yard, providing a little green space for everyone to view.

I can't wait to see what this world is going to look like in 50 years when it's already evident we sacrifice efficiencey/cost for censorship, especially in North America.

Considering the symbol is used by many different cultures, just believing that it was the most well-known use of it (in Western culture, at least) is, frankly, stupid.

It's not like the residence of this retirement home are parading around in Nazi uniforms waving the flag around and promising extinction to all jews. It's a fucking building nothing more, yeesh. How on earth is this building opressing these whiners?

I wanted to use "giving the finger" as an analogy. If you go to some country in the world and give the finger to a guy who has no idea what it means, he's not going to take offense, he's not even going to understand you.

But the analogy doesn't work, because you'd still be performing an action, you're making a gesture with meaning behind it even though the guy doesn't understand the meaning. If the fellow ever learned what it meant he might get angry or upset.

Well this situation here is even worse than that, because the building is just.. a fucking building! It's not whispering sweet death to jews walking by, it's probably not even aware of yours or it's own existance.

Forcing this place to spend money it's already admitted to not having will do nothing but raise the rent to these RETIRED people. Oh yes, lets make life more miserable to the innocent people inside the building because the building is opressing you.

I mean holy shit to change the design is one thing but to call for their destruction while people are still living in them is just plain sick. I will never support the destruction of buildings while their are innocent people still living in them. PERIOD!

Many buildings are never fully drawn out. All anyone ever has to look at are blueprints or other engineered drawings. So a lot of the time the full image is never really looked at, plus their view is more horizontal. The swastika is only noticeable by air, not even the higher buildings can see it.

Just goes to show you how out of the way people are willing to go to bitch about something.

"Hey here's an idea, lets fly around in a helicopter and find shapes and patterns below that offend me"

I mean seriously if an arial shot of it was never seen nobody would give a fuck.

I agree. Even the architects elevation renderings would have shown that. From the initial design concepts to the Architect to the General Contractor to the landscaper this design was likely known well in advance. Whether it was INTENDED to reflect a Nazi connotation is a whole different matter.

BTW, if you hate sites that pop up consider Firefox with Adblockplus...it does a pretty good job.

If people cannot recognize the permanent transformation that the Nazis have made to the symbol, then there is a problem. There were students at my school etching swastikas around campus making a huge fiasco in the media and with the university's security. These students were not vandalizing the campus to show their appreciation for Hinduism, okay. The swastika has come to represent hatred and intolerance, in spite of its historical and current uses in different cultures. The swastika is not just some allusion. It has a history that has been forever tainted.

Would it be worth millions of dollars fixing a swastika shaped building? I think it would be extremely stupid to spend a ton of money on such a thing, there are many better causes to put the money towards.

I got firefox. I'm talking about if you select text on sites it pops up and gives you the definition or something or those inline ads.
