Promote Fortress Forever 2.4 - Page 3

who do you want to target with the advertise?
for me as an ex-tfc player, fortress forever really seems to be a fun game, but having the choice between two servers to play on isnt really attracting. especially when one has 2 people playing and the other is has def-medics and snipers.
i dont know how the clan-scene in ff is going and if or how you are planing to increase it, but public-play is simply a pain in the ass.
no one needs to convince me that ff is a fun game, but having no ambitions to play in a clan again, the lack of playable public-servers drives me away.
what about some servers with public friendly maps?
even in tfc, ctf on most publics was unplayable most of the time. if its in your hand, try some servers with a warpath-, dustbowl-style map-rotation.

ehm, youre european I believe so you should easily find pubs without ctf. zE's server is the one most populated, and I believe theres mostly avd maps on that. I for one find 2.4 much better pubwise; it seems the skillevel has gone up quite a bit as well in that area. Many reasons for that im sure...
To answer your question I think we should target people who haven't necessarily played tfc. Seems most who still play tfc and won't switch to FF won't do it for whatever reason... They just won't, period, and there's not much we can do about that except trying to make this game as good as it gets imo. They already know about it and they don't need ad's to try it out...

Then there's that big IF... If we dont get more ppl fairly soon, then theres a very big chance that the game dies. All intellectualizing and theories regarding when to optimize this or that fails before this one brute fact is overcome, and it's really too bad that people like Bridget keep us from trying.

20-25 people more in europe playing pickups would be a billion % increase or something

It's unfortunate you just don't comprehend simple explanations. This game isn't going to die because there will always be committed members around. Why do you think, while there are only two or three servers active, they're still full of players?

I don't see why people want this game to be popular anyway. It's popular enough for me. I prefer the small community and occasional problem. With popularity comes too much bullshit and too many idiots and too many hackers and too many whiny children and so on.

Our progress on this game is iterative. We will NEVER release that one perfect version that suddenly makes it a hit and worthy of promotion. It's worthy of promotion now, but we can't compete with professional games.

People don't listen to evangelists, they listen to information that is new and relevant to their interests. So instead of arguing with people about how stupid they are not to be playing FF, just spread the word. Post videos, post news about patches, and generally remind people of the existance of FF.

The best way to promote FF is while in a pub, preferrably one with some decent admins and maps ( 66.55.154.155:27015 : The Phat Farm[Clanstyle OvD] ) be NICE if you're not new to the game.

New players(assuming they are not from tfc) are going to be confused, frustrated and ultimately looking for someone to help/show them what to do.

Let's face it, FF has a steep learning curve... and when people are yelling at you when you're a newbie, it's not fun. So what if they suck... everyone sucked when they were new. HELP THEM!

People need to stop worrying about getting people here, and start focusing on keeping the people here that have stopped to try FF. I see WhenFFWillOut's nearly every day. How many of them stay here? Probably not that many... mainly imo because there are a handful of people that decide it's fun to bitch, complain, TK, etc without thinking of what they're actually doing to the playerbase... and then there are some that couldn't honestly give two shits about our community.. they need to go.

Also one more quick thing. Once a player has learned concjumping, bunnyhopping a bit, offer them a chance to come play competitive(or even just come watch) via irc at irc.gamesurge.net #ff.pickup

BOTTOM LINE : STOP BEING ASSHOLES
