Fuck those, play TRIBES at a LAN. You can download it for free. Unmodded is the best. You can get it at Fileplanet.

The fun thing about TRIBES (aside from the gameplay itself) was that you could edit a map as it was being played... it was fun to have admin on a server at a LAN party and then trap someone in a box and close the lid... or play man-sized PONG with the poor bastard who TK'd you. :3

First, it is a classless game. You pick either light, medium, or heavy armor (you are in an armored exoskeleton). That dictates what weapons you can use. There is a variety of weapons, the most famous being the Disc Launcher (a.k.a. the Stormhammer): Basically fired discs that exploded. RPGish sorta gun. There is also a chaingun, laser sniper rifle (had to be charged to be remotely effective, like the one in TFC), mortar (kinda like demo's pipes but only heavies could use it), grenade launcher (pretty much demo's blues dead on), and an ELF (a gun that drains an enemy's power), a plasma gun (fired slow explosive-ish plasma bolts), and a blaster (backup weapon, ammo came from your suits power). Players also had grenades and mines available to them. In addition to health, your suit had power. Everyone had a jet pack that they could use to fly through the air to a limited degree. Most of the bases were floating in the air; you could not just walk in, so flying became an integral skill. Moreover, these bases were automatically defended. Enemies coming in towards a base would have to deal with the equivalent of built-in sentry guns of a variety of types. Players could take out a bases power (generators, solar panels, etc.) to disable said defenses, and players could also repair them. It was a constant battle of maintaining your base on top of winning the match. There were a variety of modes... capture the flag was different than how you know it in TFC. Basically, you had to bring the enemy flag to your flag. Offense and defense WERE important in this game. You could not just outcap your enemy with speed; if your flag is not in base, you can not cap. Moreover, if your flag is out in the field, one of your own players can touch it and it is returned automatically. There were also vehicles... light one man fighter craft, two person transports, and four person transports. There is also a command view where you can see the entire map... each base has a radar that shows incoming enemies and such. This can be expanded on further by the use of packs. Players can get packs (so long as their armor is strong enough to carry it) with a variety of functions. One pack jams enemy radar and effectively cloaks you from it. Another pack type doubles your suit's power. Instead of a pack, a player might elect to choose a deployable. Deployables were devices (much like the Engy's buildables) that could assist your team and harm the enemy team. Examples include remote turrets (effective in groups, but they had to be a minimum distance apart from one another... basically good for, at the very least, amplifying your base's defenses), radar points (increases the range of your radar; you could have the enemy's position over the whold map if you so desired), ammo dispensers, radar jammers... it goes on and on. Oh, and probably one of the most fun parts... if the base had it, you could go to a command station and manually fire your base-mounted mortars or all other kinds of guns. So even if someone could fool the AI, you could get a skilled player to manually aim your base's defenses (although they could only control one gun at a time). It is an insanely fun game... the sad thing is that like 95% of servers are modded somehow. TRIBES was the most heavily modded game ever, with roughly 80 different modded versions being developed. When FF comes out, I am going to run a TRIBES server as well (once I figure out how to do it...) and use the server forums as a vehicle to have a good TRIBES community going again. Well, at least in my own little corner of the Internets... (: All of the info I just said and more right here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starsiege:_Tribes

Fuck me!
Sierra announced roughly 10 days ago that they are killing the master server for TRIBES! This is the equivalent of Valve shutting down STEAM! Son of a BITCH!
