adware and spyware help

can anybody point me to good free adware/spyware removal utilities???

every time i click on a link i get re-directed to this fucking page and its pissing me off.

i have PCillin 2008 and i have done 2 scans in 2 days and have found nothing, i've cleared private data and cookies....

spybots S and D, not too bad, but i like windows defender better

Windows Defender, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware are the big three.

HijackThis! is great for the problem you're experiencing (browser hijacking), though.

check start up and task manager for unwanted programs running also.

I would start by googling the page that you are redirected to to see if you can find a hijacker installed like, "hijack toyzrus website"

I would search for you, however that link you posted is blocked for me at work.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I am having the same problem with FireFox. At first I thought it may be a bug with Firefox as neither spybot or windows defender seem to think there is anything wrong until I googled it and found this thread.

Unfortunately HijackThis doesn't work with Vista. Any other suggestions?

what browser do you use, Firefox or IE?

NODS32 thinks my system is fine too....I am totally lost!

None have posted Avast yet? What the hell?

Anyway.... Let's repost something I did for one of my close friends.

Quote:

Step 1:
Delete your CacAfee/Borton scanner you probably are using.

Step 2:
Download Avast Anti-Virus.
Download AVG Anti-Virus.
Download SpyBot S&D.
Download Ad-Aware.

Step 3:
Update all the scanners.

Step 4:
Restart computer and put into safe mode.

Step 5:
Set all of them onto thorough scan or however the heck you spell that word.

Step 6:
Scan overnight/any time 2 times using all of them. Repeat as your paranoia desires.

Step 7:
Delete AVG so Steam won't bitch and crash because you have it on the comp, that is, when all viruses are gone.

Step 8:
Continue using Avast as your main scanner.
Continue using Spybot as your secondary spyware scanner.
Continue using Ad-Aware as your secondary spyware scanner.

Step 9:
Cheers.

Further tips:

Run: MSCONFIG. Hide all the Microsoft Services (A tickbox).
Then disable whatever you find questionable.

Further notes:
If it still doesn't do anything, create another Administrator account and log onto that, scan on it instead. On safe mode of course.

They are experts at cleaning up your computer; you may have to to download a lot of different programs which means the process might go a couple days as you do what they tell you to and they read the results you post but I recommend them with all my recommending authority.

Sounds like an ARP or DNS poisoning attack.
There is a file in windows what windows checks before going to the DNS server. It might be hardcoded into there. I can't remember the file off hand though.

yea hasnt happened since, i dont know what it was...

i tried a few cleaning programs, didnt find anything and didnt help, then one day it stopped and hasnt happened again....
