Some people scroll through the list to get to the weapon they want rather than using the number keys to switch. (Mainly those who use the directional arrows for movement) With autoswitch enabled, it prevents the lastinv command from being used effectively. (weapon 2 chosen, scroll through to select weapon 4, lastinv with autoswitch on would switch back to weapon 3 rather than 2).
I'm sure I'm in the minority though and I or others could always disable autoswitch. Since most people probably use WASD for movement and numbers to switch weapons, autoswitch should be enabled by default. Last edited by KubeDawg; 12-08-2014 at 08:30 PM. |

This is a tricky one. For people familiar with the weapons, its a no-brainer to want fastswitch enabled. But, for people unfamiliar, I think it serves a legitimate purpose (shows the name of the weapon, how many weapons you have, etc).
Really not sure what to do about it. Maybe we need a middle ground that shows the fastswitch HUD component when changing weapons, but doesn't require you to press fire to actually switch.

I think for most players in most shooters it's pretty common to load up a class/game and scroll or key through the weapons and they probly figure things out pretty fast, it's not really a lot to wrap your head around. I don't think you'd ever find this feature in an arena FPS, which at any given time allows players to have more weapons than any one FF class has access to. And honestly I do find click to switch pretty unintuitive. Not really a big deal, because the option is there. But I do think fast switch should be default as it's the most intuitive and saves you having to search for the option.

Then, we could use the defaults: Code:
hud_fastswitch 1 hud_showweaponmenu 1

Tbh, I feel like even hud_showweaponmenu 1 is kind of annoying, and now it's locked behind an obscure console command you need to hunt for and no one knows, rather than being bundled in with the "quick switch on/off" in options. I would keep it as is just defaulted off.
Basically I think you should stay away from any, even if only potentially, annoying features being console commands. And in fact we might even benefit from having more things in an options panel that are currently only available via console currently. drawviewmodels and viewmodel fov that type of thing.

I like squeek's idea; but with a drop-down in place of the enable quick switch checkbox that lets you select between quick switch (current behavior), quick switch + visuals (new behavior, default), or manual switching.
