Game type

I made a post on the Ideas and suggestions board and they said it would be an idea more suited for mappers, so I'll just put a link to it here:

and also, since I'm on the subject of mapping. I have HL2 installed on my main computer, but hammer installed(for HL1) on my laptop. Would it be possible to still map for HL2 without having it fully installed?

If you have HL2 on Steam, you should have access to the Source SDK. Check the "My Tools" tab. Load that up, and select "Hammer Editor" from the list.

wtf, mapping without the game on that computer? are you mad? if you don't test your map regulary you will get into trouble! really, believe me, i've tried it, now i'm compiling directly afther i closed the map, before i add details, gameplay object, and then afther everything i add, now if you find a compile error without coordinates , you should find it fast, look at the last thing you've added...

Yea, you'll run yourself into the ground with hammer pretty quick if you can't test regularly, or even use the correct content (like props, textures, and so on).

and you need to play a game at least once before hammer can find its gameinfo.txt, or whatever it's called, so it would need to be installed for that.

Thank you for replying.

I'll either install HL2 on my laptop, or just use hammer on the other comp, I'll probably just install on laptop though.
