Re-Partitioning Without Wiping

I would like to re-partition my drive without wiping my current partition. Any recommendations? I currently have 1 partition that takes up the whole disk with 64-bit Windows XP.

Live Boot or Software is fine by me

try a linux (ubuntu?) live cd and run qtparted or gparted?

That's what I am thinking of doing.
My bigest fear is data loss.

I don't have room to currently back up my data... will I be fucked?

i believe you can make a partition smaller without loosing data, but I'm not sure havn't touched it in long time.

if you're making it smaller you have to defrag the partition first to make sure your data is all at the beginning of the drive/partition so that when you make it smaller you don't chop off your shit. im sure you could google for tutorials on how to do this as i know i've seen at least one.

you know you could just download the free VMware Server and fire up a vm of windows 7 beta... no need to repartition or dual boot then...

I am running it in a VM.
However VMs have limitations, such as testing hardware compatibility.
You can't test dual-screen display and gaming.

Windows XP defrag doesn't move all the data to the beginning. Older version of windows did, but now defragging in XP just moves the appropriate blocks together, but complete blocks can be scattered around your HD still.

hrm, i use dual screen with VMware Workstation all the time. fullscreen the vm then click the little monitor button and it's fullscreened on both :P
