i don't see how they are the *only* way to save the game. sure, there are players who like to play with bots, but it also put off a lot of people from playing pubs. DrEvil made some fair progress towards this, but making a bot conc effectively is easier said than done.
IMO this game hangs in the same balance as the rest of the mod scene. there's been a plethora of mods start that never finished, but still plagued the scene and fragmented a lot of public focus on the better mods. the mod scene was at its best when there was just a handful of good mods that good numbers of people could get behind. |

Bots aren't saving TFC, they won't save FF.

Probably not, but they'll make the game much more enjoyable for some of us. I've more or less quit FF because much of the time I can't find a game that's not CTF or a conc map. If I had bots, I could play with a friend or two and still have a good game

If you can't find a populated server, try joining one that's empty. There may be five other people doing the same thing, who will then join you.

You may all be right, I may be exagerating, but I do believe it would help alot. New players may be turned off if they download the game to find almost no one in the servers, and no way to play single player. People who have limited hard drive space may decide it's not worth it and uninstall.
And like those who stated a year ago - bots are always better than an empty server. :P Times like this make me wish I was a coder instead of an artist so I could help out with making bots, but unfortunatly it's a nay. |

No one is suggesting bots are better than real players, but they're a great compromise for people who want to play a decent game when that isn't an option. |

There's a working version of RCBot 2 for TF2 if you want to entertain yourself with that for a bit.

I rather run around shooting at that one lone player then shooting at players that are not real players, but that's just me.

I think bots would only help the mod. If I want to play an AvD map, most of the time I can't and it makes me want to play a different game instead (and lately I HAVE been). That's something bots could change and it could maybe help a few other stragglers interested in similar gameplay still have some fun in FF as well.

It's more the dev-team will need to get in contact with him to see if its even something they want to see at least "finished". His TF2 port is on hold because Valve has not given him any new TF2 development versions of TF2 that can be used with his modified plugin dll that has some new shit for Valve Server Plugin based bots. However that should not stop him from still working on FF ifing thats what the devs really want.
Know this though: He recently got a job at id and is moving to Dallas within like 2 weeks so I'm not sure what's to happen with the overall Omni-Bot project as a whole when they happens. |
