As computing gets faster, smaller, cheaper and less power intensive, they'll be able to increase the range and speed of robots that move in that fashion. The problem now I'm sure, is that the software can't keep up w/the amount of visual data required to process larger areas around the thing.. It will only get better anyway.

I'm sure expanding networks will help communication as well. One of those could roam around an entire city all the while communication with someone in any skyskraper.
