Connection Tweaks?
I am very familiar with the console on Quake Engine games to tweak setting for smoother gameplay on 56K, but I am not too familiar with HL2 or Source game console commands.
I seem to have very little problem playing FF on dial-up and actually kicked ass on several rounds with loaded servers and had a blast! I love it when someone says "Johnny, your ping sux!" and I can reply........ "Well, your score sux!" Anywho, I do know how to get the console up and also figured out how to set "rate", but are there any other console tweaks that I can use to smooth it out a little more? Thanks! |

cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate in addition to "rate" can help.

most servers will automatically change those values anyway
but try "cl_cmdrate 30; cl_updaterate 30" and if that dont help change them both to 100. Mine are at 100 but I have cable internet so maybe lowering them will help on 56k? I'm not sure and can't experiment of course. I'm not sure what you could do for "rate" though. Also saw you on a server playing engineer on well today. That's about the only class I can imagine myself playing with that kinda ping. |
