models crashing the game
This has got to have an easy answer, but I can't seem to find it.
Ill have a model in a simple map, compile it, then run it with no problems. Ill add another model, compile it, then run it and as the map is loading it will crash. There seems to be no pattern to why it crashes, but if I take out the model (which i usually set as prop_static) it will compile and run fine again. I leave the settings on default. Any help would be great. |

Maybe you have a prop_dynamic/physic as a prop_static.

Certain props are dynamic, in that they move so setting them to be prop_static instead of prop_dynamic or prop_physics_multiplayer for instance may cause an issue. Have a look at the entity list under "prop entities"

No, its the floodlight model, and I already have one in this case, but when I add a second, I rotate it but thats it and it crashes. Here's the error, but I looked it up and its a very vague error.

I also tried adding the coffin model and it crashes with it in the game too. The error on happens with entities, which yea I know thats kind of broad.

I sometimes get this error when hammer crashes and I start it up again. Oddly enough shutting down steam and logging in again removed it. Try defragmenting the cache files (rightclick on sourcesdk, properties, local files, verify integrity of tool cache, defragment)
The same goes for HL2 dm data et al. |

last sentence same goes for all other data files so do it with hl2 dm, hl2 single player and the rest to be sure.
If that is ok you may want to try: "1) Right mouse click on my computer->Properties->Advanced 2) Performance Options -> Virtual Memory 3) I changed my virtual memory page size to have an initial size of like 550Mb and a max size of 1024Mb. In short, I upped the virtual memory page file size, and then I was able to play the game. Your mileage may vary." Source: http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windo...lf-Life-2.html I also read somewhere it has todo with windows not allocating enough memory and then crashing and burning. So try rebooting, closing the rubbish besides steam in the task bar and then running hl2 : dm Other solutions are: adding +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 to advanced starting options on HL2DM To be honest it could be a lot of things judging from what google has churned up. Reboot and retry is it always repeatable? Last edited by own3r; 04-03-2007 at 11:16 PM. |

If that's the same thing that I have had, it has nothing to do with models, only steam being a shithead. |

That's just so funny, even more so because I punched my screen just like that not so long ago.

No, it's a CRT strong as a tank, hurt my hand.
I'm relived I didn't as I wouldn't be viewing this thread right now if I did. |

Before you do anything, is this repeatable when you reboot and try again? Is the memory address the same?

If so uncheck the option on the compile window to run game after compile then run hl2 dm from game menu yourself and load the map, does the problem persist? |
