The Reverse Bunnyhopping Flamethrower Push (easier done than said)
Hello, and again, welcome to the Apert... oops wrong tutorial. Anyway, I'm going to teach you KIIIIIIIDS a neat little technique I figured out for the pyro today.
Step 1. Open up Steam Step 2. To to the "My Games" tab Step 3. Either double-click on Fortress Forever or Click on Fortress Forever then click "Launch." If you do not have Fortress Forever, please take the necessary actions to obtain it. Step 4. ???? Step 5. Okay, now that you've somehow managed to get in a map, choose the Pyro Step 6. Start Bunnyhopping, but instead of going forward, bunnyhop backwards instead (done the same as normal bunnyhopping, but start your momentum backwards instead) Step 7. While bunnyhopping backwards, fire your flamethrower Step 8. ???? Step 9. A well capitolized-on oppurtunity! |

Summary: Open FF > Join a server > Choose Pyro > Bhop backwards while shooting your flamethrower > Cake.
Still doesn't teach people to actually perform that technique. |

One thing to note about this is that the skim cap in 2.1 completely ruins any sort of extra speed you'd get out of it.

But still, you accelerate faster, so It's not a total loss. And I suppose after reaching top speed you could turn around mid-jump and do a normal bunnyhop so you can see where you're going.

Really, it was a great method for movement back in 2.0, but it's fairly redundant now.

The speeds you can reach while BHopping are the same that can be reached with the flamethrower. The speedometer shows this. The speed advantage of a backwards flamebhopping pyro is minimal, especially considering all the extra bells and whistles you have to do to get up to any speed worth getting. This, of course, means you have to aim perfectly level, otherwise you get more airtime than is efficient, or you find yourself double jumping on flat ground. All the while, you don't exactly know whats in front of you (potential enemies, bumpy terrain that may cause a double jump) and just everything about it is inconvenient and poor, especially for small gains that are only fully realized on level open terrain. And, after you've mastered this skill, you're not going much faster than someone else playing pyro that is BHopping. Now, if you could ramp slide out of this, then yeah, that'd be swell.

I suppose though, that all that jumping around makes it harder for the snipers, and the flame trail can burninate unwanted assailents (and wanted assailents). So I suppose that while it's not a great technique for speed, it can cause hassle...

The pyro, just by existing, causes hassle. I liked it better in TFC when nobody was playing pyro cause it sucked too much.

I find it harder to kill stuff safely in FF because even if the damage output is higher, flames don't block vision like they did in TFC =/ |

Minor speed gain by doing this, but because you can't see where you are going, you end up not going precisely straight, thus resulting in a somewhat longer distance to be covered. Also you have to factor in the many times you stop dead because you hit an obstacle, the times you blunder into a bad place, and the times you get sniped because you are moving in a predictable way and can't see your assailants to judge the best way to avoid them. All in all, not an effective strategy most of the time.

Once you know a map well, travelling backwards through it is just as easy as going forwards!
