Ubuntu phone

Any other enthusiasts?

This is the second Ubuntu Phone to hit the market, the other one being a slightly cheaper and lower specs BQ Aquaris. The phone seems pretty cool to me and I'd like to give it a shot, but both prices are a bit too high for me.

Anyway, do you think they actually have a chance on the Smartphone market? Currently dominating are Android and iPhone, with Windows phones having a somewhat smaller audience. Personally if it was for me to buy a new phone, I'd defenetly shoot for an Ubuntu or Windows one.

Can it run iOS or android apps? If not, then it's just as useless as a Windows phone.

Well each system has it's own kind of apps. Most likely the devs will simply port the applications from one system to another if the phone is popular enough.
Perhaps there's a little chance for it to run Android apps, as both systems are Linux based. On PC I could easily run Debian programs on Ubuntu, so I kinda expect the same to happen between Ubuntu and Android.

An OSS phone is something I'd be into, as long as being able to flash the phone is part of the deal. The pervasive control freak mentality from phone companies always kept me uninterested in phones beyond making calls.

For Android apps if the phone can spawn jvms then I would suspect it can run android apps if only in a simulator. Frankly, after tinkering with Raspberry Pi 2 and having seen what's possible via ARMv7... why not? Frankly I'd love an OSS-based phone. And Ubuntu? Yes, definitely!
