The known universe
Pretty damned cool vid... and it makes one realize how vast the universe is. And what a small piece of it this planet is. I'd suggest watching it on youtube in HD full screen. Last edited by SomeOldGuy; 12-18-2009 at 09:36 PM. |

Well they only can see about 13.5 billion years out, and there is likely more beyond there... or is there?
Oh wait... I forgot... when they passed somewhere around 5000 to 7000 light years away, you should have been able to spot it. Maybe they were saving energy and had the lights off or it was on the oppposite side? |

I knew it..............
There is something else out there. I saw a irregular light coming from another galaxy that had to be some type of lifeform with a LED flashlight or something. I am still trying to figure out how the camera was able to travel so far away.
The real thing is that without sometype of wormhole or something that mankind will never be able to leave our own Galaxy. It is just about as impossible as Tyra Banks letting a homeless man jerk off and money shot her in an alley. I dont see it ever happening. dh

Does anyone think there is life out there similar to our own within our own galaxy? As we struggle to find life on our neighboring planets, it makes it difficult to even fathom the thought of life that exists elsewhere, but due to the vastness of our galaxy, and how small even it is in comparison to the millions of other galaxies that exist in the universe, I honestly believe that life does exist elsewhere.
Will we ever find the 'edge' of the universe? Will that be the point at which most of the human race is off the planet, and venturing toward newly discovered planetary systems in our own galaxy? |

I always thought there was life out there, but you have to realize how extraordinary Earth's circumstances are to allow for life. You need to have a planet that's the perfect distance from it's sun so it's not too cold/hot, and it needs to have an active volcanic core. That's really the bare minimum for a life-bearing planet. Then it needs nitrogen, carbon, and a whole host of other elements to allow for organic compounds to form. Then on top of that, it has to be in a stable part of it's galaxy. Earth is perfectly situated, so that we're far away from a lot of flying space junk, whereas in other parts of the universe, everything is very closely compacted. It also can't be too close to celestial bodies that give off too much nuclear radiation. So when you think about it, the chances there are other life-bearing planets out there seems to be pretty damn slim, seeing as there are many conditions to be met. I'm no expert, but I honestly don't think there is life beyond Earth, or at least intelligent life. However, I'd to think, just as much as the next guy, that there is life out there. That would change life so dramatically.

There are interesting theories about silicon based life rather than carbon. It would possibly allow it to survive in harsher environs than the kind of existence we're accustomed to.
In reality though, there are so many stars that could possibly have planets which may in turn house some form of life that there is, by all odds, something else out there. Will we find it before we move on to the next step of evolution? Naw, but it's still cool to think about. |

When looking into space, remember, you're looking into the past and what the universe USED to be.
The furthest back they can see is around 500,000 years after the big bang where all you can see is the cosmic microwave background radiation (as shown in that video). Watched a documentary about a satelite they sent up around 2005 called 'MAP'. It was quite intresting because it allowed scientists to concluse that the universe is indeed (almost) flat. Good video. And yes, there will be other life forms out there in my opinion, but not entirely falling under our definition of 'life'. As someone already mentioned, it could be something like silicon based life. To think that there is life in the deepest parts of the ocean that reside near ocean floor giesers (extreme tempratures), insanely high pressure from the ocean depth its self and no sunlight whats so ever, then there's a good chance of life in the universe! |

Seen that before so didn't comment. just want to say that:
Space, Universe and 'Life' documentaries are awesome and amazing things. The more that you watch the more you start to think about what could be. |
