Here's an even better idea! How about a release.

I would accept a beta position after I finished shitting my insides out the instant I'm asked.

There may be 70 on the list. But I wouldn't count all the ones who completely disappeared. Are we counting those? And refer to Circ's post.

They can do their jobs as well and probably better if there were people in the UK or US beta servers more often to encourage playing. That can only happen with more testers. But then again, maybe bug reporting is not an issue (refer to previous post about the bottleneck possibly being the number of devs). Regardless, my post wasn't really aimed at the benefits gained in bug reporting but more about the benefits gained by an infusion of new blood.

What exactly is adding more beta testers going to accomplish at this point? The mantis tracker has enough bugs in it as is, it's not like we are at a lack for bug finding. Adding more testers = more useless people that just play the game but don't contribute in any way, and more people to repeat the same bugs found over and over.

Trust us, we've found enough shit so far, and the coders have their hands full as is.

All more beta testers would accomplish is more bullshit clogging up the pipes.

I see no harm to the mod whatsoever in bringing in more Beta testers providing they can justify it. ie. they can prove that they wont give up on the mod once they have tried it (e.g. been clanning in fortress mods a long time) and that they can make a worthwhile contribution.

For example, bringing any people with scripting, mapping, moddelling skills who would be able to develop any custom things for the time of release is surely a good thing too.

I'm sorry I dont subscribe to the idea of more people playing the game as "bullshit clogging up the pipes". I think thats a very biased and narrow minded opinion coming from someone who is unsuprisingly already a beta tester (i assume?) !

This. Sure, it'd be more fun for everyone to have more people playing the game but I imagine the devs prefer bringing in people they know or think they can trust, as opposed to random people off the forums/wherever. Someone could leak a lot of shit, that's the thing.

Well, the whole idea was thusly:

Rotate the testers, as it bring a fresh perspective..
and
Gives the community a feel of more involvement in the development of the mod.

I see it as win-win.

Maybe rotate beta tester schedules in blocks of 2-4 weeks, then a lottery happens, and a new set of testers has at it.

(which I would assume would piss off the current testers, cuz then they woudln't get to parade around on their high horses, and flaunt the holier than thou attitudes anymore...)

Reading these forums, looks like there's a fair amount of people that want to play the game, why can't we have an open beta?
The devs can carry on bug fixing/map making/whatever it is they're doing with their 'massive list of bugs' while everyone else can shift themselves from spouting rediculous excuses (brownie points?) on the forums and actually have a look at what the game is going to be like.
I can't see how doing this would stop potential players from playing, however many times people say it.

Definately. A wise old wizard once said, "Keep it secret, keep it safe."

I question on what could be leaked........

I mean the source code should be protected of course but I am wondering how many people right now are beta testing it as we speak. 5...10....???? Also I would like to see what the major issues that are happening currently or is it all cosmetic and just polishing the game up. Also would like to know how many man hours this took from everyone working on the project as a total.

I know they have spent soooo..much time on this and I am very thankfull to that. They did not have the option of having a fully staffed devel team like Valve does with their shitty rendition of TF2.
