Not to mention the people who lurk here, but don't want to post because they see how quickly "some" people can turn around and bite their head off for offering an opinion.
I don't mind tomfoolery, or even friendly banter(such as calling Ricy a greedy Jew )... because he's cool with it. This: Quote:
THAT would have been an obvious joke, and not gotten anything negative said about it.

I normally don't feel like playing pickups. Too many rules against having fun imo. Only peeves I have are having too many of X class or some idiot doing yard D. Other than that, I don't really care so long as I can torch people.

I've seen people state their opinion on something(both for and against), in a respectfull manner, and subsequently being attacked for their well thought out post. That's the kind of BS that's not needed around here. This community is small enough as it is, without pummeling someone for simply stating their opinion on something. You don't have to be a "cry baby" to feel put off by that type of behavior. We're not asking for a lot, just keep it civil. Is that really so much to ask?

Considering you have a tendency to complain when things don't go your way...

I know just about as much about this game as you do. We both have very different play styles though. That much is clear. Ftw, I make assumptions about the PICKUP community, not about the PUB community. Pickups aren't my thing, never will be. Even if I have the equivalent skill level. Gwar also is on that level, but doesn't like them either. Too many kiddie rules that restrict gameplay... most of the time. I'd like to squirt a few at passers by if they annoy me enough. Otherwise I ignore it and head for the base. Although RESTRICTING the amount of A FEW classes is much nicer, it allows for more variety, 5 demos on a defense is extremely excessive (talking from experience). -- I would be willing to play a pickup provided there's not that many rules, I.E. Anything goes, all classes (restricted obviously) and make sure the teams are balanced with both defensive and offensive players alike. I wouldn't care if Friendly Fire was on or off. That being said, we're on to opposite sides of the fence, you can't necessarily make that argument.

I just re-read; "Kiddie rules" are what I mean by restrictive gameplay, not common sense. Which is what most of O-T's rules are, keeping it fair and a fun environment for everyone. Kiddie rules -- NOT being able to fire on someone out in the middle of the yard. (Yard D is something that annoys me but it's manageable) Common Sense -- Respect other players... That's what I meant by kiddie rules. I hate it when people try to restrict gameplay when it EXISTED in the game in the first place. Outside of that fact, no I don't mind O-T's rules. In fact I actually like them, it keeps a majority of the real stupid people out. My point is I was kidding about my earlier post, I had no intention of getting a hostile response out of Moya, nor was it my intention. My second post was to point out my peeves with the pickup community. It's in just about every game; Some idiots want to try to restrict what you can do so that it's "fair" when it's really just a bunch of bullshit to try and get rid of the more annoying elements of the game that THEY don't like. Play it the way it was meant to be played, anything goes, and it's to an extent, fair (both o and d). Mind you, I'm not one to judge, outright chaos is where I thrive and it's where most other players do too. Others prefer an organized attack against an organized defense (OvD). I don't like that, I prefer to go out and go after the enemy flag instead of sitting on D, unless we REALLY need it (rarely). This is where the assumptions come in (this is the vibe I got when Moya explained that one night); Team A goes on Offense while team B goes on Defense, it lasts for X minutes or till X captures has been taken, then the teams switch roles. No yard D, no shooting at each other in said yard. -- that to me is boring. I prefer shooting passers by in the yard, while it will likely prompt a response, it's apart of the game, I can soften them up for my team as they role on to the flag (if you're a scout conc instead of running through, and actually plan your rout instead of mindlessly going past someone) My preferred type of gameplay is where you're allowed to do what you need to, a few players go on offense; 2 light classes, 1 offensive class, 1 heavy. Up against an organized defense; 2 engineers (at the most), 2 demos, etc. The objective is to take the opposing teams flag. Team work, good communication, good tactics, and planning are what make a great team. I've seen this time and again, as when the conditions are right, the game gets VERY intense and it gets the blood flowing. I love it when I can take out a few of the defense and the medic and scout go zipping by me to take the flag after I've cleared a path. Or when I can soften up a few of the enemies on their way to take the flag as I go to get theirs. -- That's offense --defense Working together with the rest of your team to secure the objective and taking out their offense in the process. Nothing much more to it than that. Snipers can pick them off as they're coming in and suppress them to an extent. Sollys can knock them in the air to slow them down while the heavies rip them to shreds. That's teamwork, that is how games should be organized.

Read above.
-- No intention of insulting anyone, I know a lot of you play pickups, and I respect that. I'm just explaining how I feel about the rules laid out.
