ff_portkarl_hns

this thread is focused on my map ff_portkarl_hns. It is a hide and seek map set in a city theme. The basis of this map will be used in other forms. I am going to do it in a deathmatch form, and I am experimenting with other types (hunted, command point, avd)

current map status: 15%, in the planning/design stages

Teams/Classes:
Hiders: Blue Civillian
Seekers: Red Scout, Sniper, Medic, HW Guy, Engineer, Spy.

Looks like it's going to be a rather fun map!
Are you going to use the civilian class for the people that will hide and some other class for the ones to search or what? I remember playing thoose kind of maps in TFC.. Anyway, keep it up, looks great!

Looks good.

What are you thinking for the skybox? A night version of City 17 would look kickass, sort of what Nez did for ff_tiger.

Dull: textures, lighting, brushwork, skybox, etc. Practice your mapping skills some more

GEE I WONDER WHAT HE MIGHT BE TRYING TO DO WITH THIS MAP, ALLIGATOR.

Looks alright. Needs less "abandoned gas station floating in space" and more "ooh look at all the places I could hide!"

yeah, I just made that gas station spent 3 hours on different designs untill I came up with this one. I will be making it to where you will be able to hide in the "store room" and under the car lift there will be a secret door .

@ alligator the skybox is just temporary, I put it there so I didn't have the black space. There isn't even a bottom on it :P. as for the lighting, I am going to work on it at the end. I am just getting the main design of the buildings/town layed out before I put the final textures on it.

@ lost I was thinking of a nice night city version (like city 17) but I need alot of help with skybox seems/design.

Man, don't go making specific hiding places... it needs to be open and cramped at the same time, with potentially infinite spots to hide in, otherwise it loses replay value fast.

nice bocks carving

try using displacements to make some rubble, and make a destroyed building, it will make things more interesting. atm it looks more like a HL1 map, so utilise the source engine features by putting in some curves and displacements.

I'll proclaim your map a success if it's the first hide and seek map to capture my attention for more than 10 minutes.

Map looks great though, all I can recommend is more variation in the theme as you build the map more; hide and seek maps get extremely boring going through the same drab and dark textures over and over.

Hmmm, that sounds like a Porn Cough, you might need to get that checked out Nez. I recommend a buxom blond, take two and call me sometime after noon.

Most probably bad :P

In its current state it looks empty and uninspiring but if you keep mapping, the practice will eventually lead to success.

EDIT: Try and create a good atmosphere, add more details and add a 3D skybox and you will be nearing a more complete map, and that is why I understand that these are things that will be inputted later on down the line considering it is only 15% complete
