Map Optimization FPS
I'm creating a map which is pushing my FPS a little. In HL1 I relied on r_speeds to keep my maps within acceptable levels of game play. What system are the current mappers relying on to test their maps?
I found this website helpful. It explains some basic ways to optimize your HL2 map, but doesn't talk much about what most maps hit in terms of frame rates and such. http://www.student.ru.nl/rvanhoorn/o...?chapter=intro |

cl_showfps 1
Test what you get in standard hl2dm maps like overwatch etc, if you get higher fps in your map, then you're good. +showbudget to see what's eating your fps. |

My concern with using FPS as a basis for detail is that everyones FPS is different based on system setup. I am running a Radeon 9700 Pro video card with AMD 2100 processor and hitting lows around 40 FPS but generally between 60 and 100 FPS. Should I be concerned about the low 40 FPS on my system assuming it may dip lower on a full server with explosions?... or are most people running faster machines than mine?... or are there other standards to live by than just FPS?... or should I switch to a diet soda?

For some reason hearing Circuitous say the word "baseline" made me immediately understand. Sometimes I just miss the obvious, when someone tells me. Probably cause I haven't slept... late nights mapping make my mind numb. Thanks again!
