I'm not sure how a random bunch of people with varying tech levels counters the very real issues we've encountered with Vista. Assuming that was the intent of posting the video. I still use Vista for some stuff, XP for my laptop and Linux for other stuff. There's just some stuff that Vista does not work with. Why should I buy thousands of dollars of replacement software because the older software that I use on XP, that works perfectly and meets all of my needs, won't work on Vista?

Also, would you rather listen to people who are most likely working for MS, or techs who work in the field all day?

This was on Slashdot a few days ago, and someone made a very good point:

They had systems in Microsoft's hands, so you *know* there were no driver issues or any shit like that.

Give them some random OEM machines, or better yet, have them install Vista. Let's see how that goes.

Vista fails it, let's hope they do better with Windows 7.

- It looks like almost all of those people were average users.
- If you are just going to click on most dialogs and prompts without reading them, browse, email, shop, chat, and it is already loaded on your PC, it is good.

- Weather we like it or not, it is here.

- I don't like how there is six editions

+ Lucky for me we aren't deploying it for yet another year.
+ At least MS changed the users profile path .

I can make my XP look like a whole new OS, I can make it look like Vista if I wanted it to.

Just because they made Vista look different, that it ran fine and wasn't sluggish, and no one had any "problems" with it doesn't mean Vista is better, it just means they stacked the deck in Vistas favor by making sure it was on a newer fast computer system with lots of ram, and made sure that all the programs on it didn't conflict with it to start with.

I've used Vista, its a pain in the butt. But I bent it to my will, mainly because I've been doing that with XP since I got it. But I still hate Vista. The only thing that Vista has that my XP doesn't is DX10 and thats only because MS made it that way to sell Vista. Seriously do you think Vista would have sold if DX10 would have worked on XP? I doubt it.

Seriously this "experiment" they did was stacked.

I didn't like XP at first but I have to admit Vista is truly a piece of poop and I'm not
going to like supporting it.

At work I am still running into 2k machines now and then. Its like stepping in a pile of dog shit because they have "rebuild" written all over them.

Hah, sorry, had to point this out as a slightly-enjoyable socially-relevant pun.

Also: While I have no experience with Vista, two of my relatives in the software engineering industry say it's absolutely painful, and my dad sold his new laptop 3 days after he bought it and got a Mac instead because it had Vista on it.

Soooo... I'll be steering clear.

The truth is that if you have a POWERFUL computer, Vista should work well.
The Issue that M$ was having was that they companies were (and still are) installing Vista on low-end computers. That fact that you can buy a Vista computer with less then 2 gigs of ram is the problem.

VISTA IS A RESOURCE WHORE

If you have the resource, theoretically Vista should run fine.

With that said, I'm getting all my computer components today and I plan on installing XP x64.

Unfortunately that's not always the case. To be honest, both XP and 2K handle OS errors much more gracefully.

Same thing with windows 95 going from the 16 bit Windows 3.1 and EVEN going from XP to XP sp2. That broke a lot of stuff.

you dinosaur! you're supposed to upgrade immediately to vista to

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER thats why vista requires 6gb of ram because it's *that* better!

Not really. Vista has an aim for no revolution and broken functionality and restrictions. XP on the other hand didn't, but the migration to an NT-based OS from a 9X one was hard for quite a few who enjoys running 16-bit apps such as DOS games natively. XP is hardly different from 2000 functionality-wise but it did add more pointless restrictions the former didn't have (the whole activation thing, and the severely limiting Home edition).

"People who have never seen Vista before."

Hmmm... I bet if they had used Vista beforehand for long periods of time they would find that it's crap.

I like Vista (kind of), running two boxes but it's a headache. Migrain in fact.

Vista requires what all those other OS crossroads did, Driver re-writes. In the case of my older XP box turned Vista, most just say no. We aren't going to do it. And I wouldn't call Vista any less inovative than XP or 95. It's quite a leap OS wise. Even though for the most part it sucks with capatability. The issues between XP and XP service pack 2 were based on increased restrictions.
