The Graphical Guide to Recording Half-Life 2 Demos and Converting Them to AVIs
http://files.filefront.com/hl2+movie.../fileinfo.html I recently saw a post that mentioned a YouTube tutorial that showed how to make movies. Well today I was cleaning off my desktop and found this file. I have no clue when/where I got it. |

Well I use the Source Recorder when making my videos, here are a couple comments about his guide:
-Ignore what he said about the "sweet spot" for resolution, it doesn't matter what resolution you're using -If you do "startmovie moviename avi" you can record in AVI format and use different codecs. If you use something like Xvid you can get much efficient space usage than something like raw .TGA files. The downside to this is that it has a 2GB cap before it corrupts and a 4GB cap period. I use this method to record at 180fps so I can downsample it to add in motion blur to my clips later. |

Suggestion:
why not include a link to a final product? Many people want to see the results of the compression with those settings...

If you use the HuffyUV codec or TGA method, there is no perceivable compression, it's all uncompressed or lossless. If you use Xvid, it varies depending on the config used. A quantizer level of 1 gets results so clear I'd have difficulty telling it between uncompressed unless I was really looking for it.
