Windows 7 Public Beta

It should be going public soon.
However, people seem to forget how awesome the longhorn beta was!
xkcd seemed to have gotten the message right.

Let's hope we're wrong!

I might try this out now that I'll have a free 500gb HDD laying around thanks to Christmas. I'll be using it for testing out other OS's anyways.

Man created VMs for a reason.
Now lets just hope that VM Server 2 supports Windows 7 Beta.

I'm going to give the 64bit version a try. It's easy enough to fix if it's a disaster... just reset the system to it's original factory settings.

The official links haven't been posted on Microsoft's website. However, they have been having website issues all day because of all the people trying to get the beta.

The links in that article works fine. It runs a java downloader. I'm at 20%

It made me install an ActiveX download manager and it's complete garbage so far. The download page - the link to the .iso that you copy/paste into the browser - keeps refreshing and prompting the download manager to add another download.

Anyway, only after firing up a Windows VM and opening the .iso link in Internet Explorer am I able to get it to start working in their piece of shit download manager. Bleh, I'm just annoyed it wouldn't work in Firefox running on Ubuntu. And the more I use Ubuntu the more I'm annoyed when I have to do certain things with certain pieces of software and these certain pieces of software only work in certain operating systems.

Rofl. Microsoft removed the beta from the site already. Apparently there servers can't handle the demand.

I tested in the private beta test a few months ago............

It is not bad but you can still tell that it is based on the Vista kernel and the boot speeds are much better then Vista ever was but that all depends of course what you have in startup. Now the hardware is the same as if running Vista SP1 and some of the garbage has been removed but it still has a vista feel to it and shit still has been moved.

I'm going to have to test it out. I'm going to be building my recording PC and I might as well make it a dual boot PC. We'll see how it works out.

I installed Windows 7 on a VM.
It's working well. The only problem I had was if you tried to run a youtube video in full screen it would freaze the computer...
