Driver Cleaner Program - NUKE old drivers

Note* I'll merge this into the Video driver thread later. For now, I wanted it separate as it is "breaking news".

If you are experiencing:

* Lower FPS than other comparable computers..IE leet systems with bad performance
* Crashes
* Sound loop lockups
* Painful burning and itching
* Other FF gameplay gremlins that don't make sense

Try this program to see if it fixes your issues. This does not do a plain reinstall of your video/audio drivers. It completely removes ANY trace of the old drivers from your computer first. This will resolve issues for some users. You want all traces of the old files gone before doing a driver reinstall. Also, please make sure you have the correct new drivers to do a reinstall.

I've had issue before from having old video and audio drivers from previously installed components by a different manufacturer than the replacement item. If you've had any old components that have been replaced with items from a new manufacturer, be sure to nuke those old drivers too.

Driver Cleaner Pro may be downloaded from Guru3d.

Some people seem to be having issues from Audio while others seem to have Video issues. I suggest your reinstall BOTH your audio and video drivers. Please try this fix and let me know how it works.

Driverheaven.net hosts Driver Cleaner Pro and has a TON of information on drivers. They also have a Driver Cleaner forum for more information.

Note*
If you're going to install and use the latest ATI Catalyst Control Center, which is part of the normal ATI Catalyst Software Suite, you must first install the Microsoft .NET Framework (Version 2.0) on Windows XP. You can also get this VIA Window/Microsoft Update.

Driver Cleaner Pro has a simple README that will tell you exactly how to remove the old drivers.

Follow the README instructions exactly.

Great program, it works very well.

I'm not sure if this was the fix for me or the combination of all the stuff I tried. I'll list the things I did.

I did the whole deal, as suggested above.
I turned all my visual and audio settings to the very minimal.
I used the -dxlevel 70 command
I set my ZoneAlarm to game mode while playing

I don't have any crashing errors anymore. Things don't run as smooth as they did before (although I can deal with it since it doesn't crash anymore)

I'm happy for the time being. In about three weeks i'll have a new rig with some much needed upgrades. Hopefully I won't have to go through all this on my new machine

Thanks for the heads up, 4est!

I always uninstall my video/audio drivers in safe mode and then install the new ones in 'normal' mode. Never had any problem or whatever this way.
