[Request] Convoy

There is this really cool map called convoy from I think unreal tournament 2004 that would be really cool on FF.
It's basically two of these giant nuke carrying flatbed vehicles racing side by side through a desert, and its a ctf map, its so awesome.

Theres two version of it right now, TF2 has one.

I think this would be a really awesome map on FF, so any mapper who thinks they can make that awesome moving effect and everything try and see if you can make a FF version

I played that one in TF2 and it was freaking awful. However, it may be because I get bored of TF2 after 10 minutes or so... Anyways, it was a freaking Sniper War all around, and the "FR" was extremely lame (but I guess in FF you can MIRV everyone inside, but then where's the challenge?)

Whatever, if someone wants to make it we will have another map =o

Well thats probably because CTF sucks in TF2.

It might need a lot of changes to work for FF but it could be cool.

Yeah, in Tf2 the map is very sniper heavy, but then again, snipers on FF are annoying, snipers on Tf2 are horribly annoying, with instant respawn, the snipers are no big deal, and the map would actually be pretty cool, they should just remove the jumppads on FF because you could conc jump across, but the heavier classes have to cross the bridge.

I think it would be a very cool map, anyway.

The way that the skybox is used in UT2k4 really isn't possible in the Source engine. The skybox uses a rotating mesh to simulate the vehicles moving through a canyon, and as most of you know, you can't tie displacements to entities.

You could do something like making a mesh in 3ds max and turn it into a model that would rotate, but that would take a big effort to complete.

The tf2 version does have the appearance that your racing down a canyon, it can be done, maybe you could ask the person who made the tf2 map how he did it.

This IS possible, im not sure which map it was in TFC, I believe it was a concmap. But one jump had the same effect. U have to jump from a truck to another truck and it appeared to be moving.

I will try and find the TFC map

**EDIT**
Ok so found it first try. The tfc map name is K_Soldier.

Also i haven't seen the UT map that is being referenced, never played it

I just saw the map, he doesn't use the same method that the UT version does. He probably used a scrolling texture or a giant func_conveyor. You can do it the way he does, but it looks really bad.

also area49 tfc fun civilian map had 2 moving jeeps at the end of one of the 3 part series. actually it was 2 jeeps along side sorta right and left, and a convoy truck in the center, plus a chopper flying in reverse up ahead firing at the civ. in the jeeps.

I couldn't tell a difference to be honest. Just looked like it was moving. The gameplay was terrible but that's because the map was made with UT in mind and not TF2. All in all, it just looked like you were moving.

It is freakin assault. Any attempt to make it CTF is an instant failure. Assault is kinda avd with some objectives other than cap (place bomb etc.)

There's one more option... You could make the vehicles actually move, like circle through a round canyon. It would be an FPS drop if it wasn't optimized properly, but with Source's parenting system it should be possible.

I remember that UT2004 map, it's probably the only one I ever saw of the game when I was visiting some old friend.
