WTF!

WHAT THE FUCK! I was just looking in the Fortress Forever steam group and out of 47 people in game 20 were playing TF2 and the rest was divided up between TFC, Counter Strike, and a couple of other games. None were playing FF so to those people playing TF2 instead of FF I say shame on you! Indeed try TF2 then get your ASS's back to FF where they belong.

If I offended you your part of the problem not the solution. The solution is FF.
To anybody else sorry just had to bitch a little.

Exactly what is FF the solution to? Doesn't the fact that so many people are chosing to PURCHASE TF2 rather than play the FREE FF tell you something?

I know what you are saying... why do you need a CD for a game you can download off of the Internet? Well, something I learned in business... you get a lot more customers by interacting with them one on one than you do through impersonal blanket advertising. I have made much more money by handing out cards and talking to people rather than posting 500 flyers at a time (which I have done many times for my business... *cry*).

I attend Otakon every year. That is an anime convention that has 22,000+ anime fans, many of whom play video games. I also attend Anime Boston, which has 10,000+ anime fans (and gamers!). I would willingly take the expense of cooking up a couple hundred CDs, labels, and cases and talking to people and handing out FF to them to try out. (Of course, I would ask if they have Half Life 2 first...)

Ditto for places like arcades. Take a dozen or so CDs, hit up your local arcade, and talk to the gamers. Go for the really hardcore, compulsive type ones. Those are the kind that get into Fortress Forever lol...

That aside, we also need a really strong fan community. There has to be a site on par with custom-tfc that covers TFC, FF, and TF2. Why? There are a lot of people who have never heard of FF... you can get a lot of people coming into the game via a multi-game fansite. Granted, you will probably have the occasional "WICH GAME IS BETTAR OLOLOL" thread, but then again, we have that here and we are not a multi-game site.
not plausible. we would get sued by Valve. this game requires HL2/SDK base. we cant re-distribute that, without BUYING the Source Engine. we dont have that much money, no where near...

Of course he can't redistribute the SDK base. That's why he said he'd have to ask them if they had HL2 first.

that sounds like an awesome idea haha

it's perfectly legal for him to burn a free mod onto a cd and distribute it for free.

I said distribute the mod, not Source SDK Base or HL2.

If packaged correctly I'd assume its like any other software found on store shelves. All third party software lists an operating system as a requirement, why couldn't a game list a sdk base as a requirement (food for thought)?

Fortress Forever:

A Source Mod for Half-life 2

Quote:
System Requirements:

Windows 2000, XP or Vista
Half-life 2 'SDK'
256 MB RAM
400 Mhz processor
1GB HD space (recommended)
Internet connection (broadband recommended)

I have to say, I've been sitting and watching things fade fast, and it's sad.

I do have to agree with what's been said about making the game easier for newer players. Bhopping is cake and no longer adds such a huge curve to the game. Concing is the equivalent of the cake in Portal (takes a little bit to get to). In TFC, that shit was like trying to make angel food cake from scratch, inside a soufflet, without the latter collapsing.

FF devs, I'll stand by your side through these rough times. When everyone has gone for TF2, I shall stay by FF. Supporters, follow my example! FF and TF2 may be different games, but FF has one thing that TF2 never will: Depth. The various ways to capture a flag, to destroy a sentry gun, or to kill enemies. Having to develop different strategies for different classes based upon a variety of factors. Having matches turn straight around in the blink of an eye. Knowing that the same old tactics won't work like they just did fifteen seconds ago. Knowing that you can throw a conc gren down and fly across the map like a 150,000 HP jet dragster.

FF SUPPORTERS, ASSEMBLE! *blows out note through a conch shell*

Yeah, TF2 has no depth. Just run and shoot and win the game.

FF has multiple options like run and shoot or jump and shoot or run and throw grenade.

Hate to say this.. played some TFC this weekend after 6 months.. the difference is immense: TFC is a clean and clear game, the models are soooo nice, the maps are bright, there aren't 3 zillion details...

TFC >>> FF

I was surprised to see probably more TFC players than before the FF release

I agree. Some of the maps like well/crossover are way to dark. It's depressing to play. The models are hard to see sometimes, or to tell apart from a different class from a distance. I think some redone models and brighter maps alone would help the mod a lot.

The problem is new players don't care about that stuff. They care about the game not crashing and other bugs not happening.

Take away the sentence on concing and the rest of this paragraph applies to TF2 as well.

Indeed, then if you have 100% uptake, there would be 113 people playing right now. Heck, then we'd have nearly half the number of players as Natural Selection!

/pipe dream.

Sad Sad

Why are there only 12 people in the WORLD playing FF right now?

This is a disaster...
