Last I heard, it's still planned to be remade, but because of the VT Massacre, it's been postponed once again. I seriously hope it does not get remade though, it's not a movie that should be remade. I've been on a Battle Royale spree lately (even though i've seen it back in '02), and finally bought the DVD box set (Battle Royale, Battle Royale II: Requiem, Battle Royale: Supplement (extras)), and the 15 volumes of the manga at San Diego Comic Con International 2007.

Wow. That is a lot of Battle Royale. I've only seen the original film. Is the 2nd movie worth it?

Also, I really don't think the plot works for American culture. At all. It will not translate well no matter who is involved, in my opinion.

I agree that the plot will not translate at all no matter what.

As for the 2nd Battle Royale movie, I'll say that it's not as good as the first one, at least in terms of it's tone, since the story is a bit different compared to the first; but it's a good action movie none the less. It doesn't help that the director of the first movie died after shooting one very important scene for the second movie; and his son took over the project.
