Just because nobody under 25 understands the greatness that was TFC or QTF or FF doesn't mean younger people, who may have never even heard of those games, won't enjoy the hell out of a sequel if done right. There was a certain recipe that worked because of the amount of customization, because of the dozens of different game modes available that built over time. TF2 went full retard on how it was developed. They successfully made a cash cow out of a TFC remake even though it had by no means an experience anywhere as rich and full of depth. I'm with you jon, whatever needs to be done should be done. idk what skills I could bring to the table, but I think this mod deserves the attention of a hell of a lot more people than we've got so far and I'd love to help in any way I know how. |

Haha, Dex, that's my iMac on my table. My main PC is on a different desk. But yeah, the goal is to have a proper desk and office and equipment to do this stuff properly.
Cool Kube, sounds about right, amiright? If anyone is worried about how much work will be involved, don't worry, there are lots of game developers out there willing to work on stuff. Honestly, the basic idea is just remaking FF & TFC (and maybe QWTF) on a modern engine with modding being a focal point. Actually, I will be focusing on remaking TFC. FF will just come out of that naturally, but I think a more pure TFC remake on a modern engine is exactly what is needed, not a remake of FF because FF is who knows what. But we all know what TFC is. And things like "take teleported out" can go away. We'll let you turn them off in a mode, like core FF, but the TFC mode needs to be pretty much identical to TFC as we know it now except on a modern engine. *edit* I mean, servers could choose to have teleported or not, but completely taking them out was stupid and I always hated that. Same with bhop except the other way around. It should be allowed and encouraged, but it also kinda sucks depending on the context so it should be an option built in and not hacked together by server admins. Tbh Idk if I can get on board with jon. Partially because he seems more talk than action. But mostly I don't trust his direction. It seems like, if he had his way FF would be just as dead as it is now, and that no one would be playing FF or TFC. Rather they'd be playing something that kind of looks like it, but is basterdized a hundred ways from sunday.
Having diverse game modes and a solid level of customization is one thing. But you only need to go look all the the dumb shit in something like megaTF to see where this is going. Air strikes, two shot tesla coils, complete lack of bhop. Honestly what's the point if you're killing fortress gaming? Just to make the name popular? People who play this game do so because they like fortress gaming, not because "Team Fortress" is a cool name that should umbrella a hundred other games for the sake of relevance. I don't trust Jon not to basterdize this genre. In fact I don't even trust Jon to do a good job of properly basterdizing it if he tried.

Wouldn't it be better to just continue working on FF as it is now? Probably a lot less effort than starting from the ground up.

Frankly, [the content of] Jon's portfolio speaks for itself. Inception of this 'neo'-TFC (lol?) would be a personal dream-come-true for not only me, but also for a large collective of the silent player base; of this I am absolutely positive. Let us know how we may help in this endeavour. |

I feel like this thread is a colossal waste of time. The game needs servers, the servers need rules and admins, limited maplists (or even 1 map). If you join a pub in FF as it is today its a chat room with people running around aimlessly on shit maps like ff_r123
Maps and servers dictate how the game is to be played. Find someone to host servers. When some kid plays at the server for a week let him in the server's dumb clan let him be an admin and he'll stick around and play all the time because he feels important. Also if you want stupid fun maps make them. Make a server that plays fun maps and wallah you have Axl's TF. CTF is shitty for pubs we all know it. 2fort works i guess, but everything else is shit. I don't pub and I don't want to because I'm too good and its monotonous nonsense playing with terrible players. The game mode I would pub is AvD but it fucking sucks since grenade jumps are such shit and the best map dustbowl is really gay in FF. Looks great but isn't fun because you hit random double jumps all the time, there's dumb props you bump into and the choke points are beyond simple to break through. It isn't the game's fault, the map is shitty. TL;DR maps + servers > updates + non sense also i've repeated this for the 90th time so i don't expect anyone to care Last edited by aleXtric; 05-26-2014 at 01:26 AM. |

When I started playing TFC it was pretty awesome to keep going to a server thinking they were going to let me "tryout" for the clan. It would be cool if this feeling could be recaptured for future players.

Back when :e0: was around what kept the popularity of the server and community was being a part of the clan/guild. Over time we manage who would become an admin. From there our members invited more people in, or their friends in and it kept growing. We had 30 members at one point, and we ran special game nights, ventrillo server, steam group and forum group. As soon as left (life and stuff), nobody picked up where I left off. Eventually Moya and Corey did, but I believe the community aspect of it was lost and was focused more on clan/matches. I believe 50bmg and Ostrich tried to keep it going, but not sure what happen. Another good example was the Old Timers.

You guys keep saying "don't just make it into GMod" but really, the best thing to do IMO is just turn it almost completely into GMod.
Except not GMod, but the GMod Tower server for GMod. ( minus making a house and the actual minigames or whtever ) You make a master server with 64 or 128 max players, it has a big lobby area, you can access other servers through it and it shows an image of the map on a server if there's one available, you get ff credits for playing games, you spend ff credits on slight customization to your ppls, the master server tracks all your stats ( at the end of a game, html lua sends your stats to the lobby ) and you can have ingame friends and stuff and you can see what servers they're in, etc. Not only that but that really gives a community spirit, because is on the same server ( and people chat in lobby server, not games, so you ppl who are moaning about ppl chatting in pubs are happy ). ;p + in chat irc - no more waiting in mirc or any of that shit + pickup add notifications IN GAME HLY SHT EVERY PICKUP ADMINS NEW FAVOURITE + ff_toogood ( not only that but im more than happy to spend my time working on lua for ff that'll never be used, in fact thats what i do now anyway :l ) Then you have a Join Lobby Server button on the main menu, in addition to Server Browser in-case the Lobby is full or is down for maintenance or an update, etc. Lobby would also let you global mute so if you dont like someone they get muted and blocked from chat on every server. Everyone loves to hate ppl right? I mean sure, it would be a bit un-tf, but it'd be new and cool and stuff and yeah good

It has been a little over two years since I have posted here. The reasons why I left FF and this community are some of the same reasons why this thread was started.
FF is a great game. It is fun, amazing graphics and has a lot to offer. One of the reasons why people such as myself left this game is because of the community. I got tired of being harassed by people like Bridget. An example: Please STOP with the p0rn sprays As a concerned parent I started a thread about something that bothered me, and my concerns were shot down. On a couple of occasions I walked into Koreys (Yoda) room and people were harassing him while playing FF. I think it was Bridget who was asking Korey if he sucked his dads (meaning myself) dick. Korey had his headphones unplugged. I heard every clearly someone asking about if Korey and his dad exchanging sexual favors. Honestly now, what kind of parent wants their kids playing a game where they are constantly harassed? I asked Korey to stop playing FF specifically because of the abuse being thrown at him from this community. Screw that. No parent wants their kids to be part of a community where they are harassed and verbally abused. The FF community imploded because of the abuse and verbal harassment. Instead of creating a warm and welcoming community, FF players were hostile and abusive. When this abuse was brought up, the admins did nothing about it. The leaders of this community allowed the verbal abuse and harassment to continue. And it continued until almost nobody wanted to be a part of this community. server administrators are not community leaders as a whole. what do you want to happen in your case in the past? anyone is free to run a server and be as insufferable as they like

What are new players supposed to think when they see players harassing other members? Hey such-and-such, your daddy ever f**k you up the ass? And the harassment on and on and on and on,,,,. That is not a community I want to be a member of. Nor is it a community I want my kids part of. Nor is it a community I would refer people to. The FF community needed a code of conduct 6 years ago. Instead of having a code of conduct, trolls were allowed to turn new and existing players away. You want to know what will attract new players? It is called being nice. The only thing FF needs is to get rid of the trolls and be nice to new and existing players. Last edited by ~kev~; 05-28-2014 at 07:57 PM. |

thanks for the gold mine ~kev~. I agree that porn sprays are lame but come on dude, this is the internet, we're adults and we aren't going to censor ourselves because you want your kids to play a video game. This isn't babysitter-forever. You brought on your son's abuse for expecting a code of conduct in an online multiplayer game. A video game server is basically the equivalent to a locker room, suck it up or play with voice_enable 0 and all those spray blocking settings people posted.

Trolls, harassment, abused exist in any community. It is not something a Mod, game actually should control or is part of the responsibility.
Any game Korey plays the same issue will happen, and that is very unfortunate, but that is the internet.

I'm positive that you wou ld not have such problems if you for example, played on OT server which has rules much more aligned to your personal preferences. I'm not saying that you are wrong to be offended, but instead of asking "the community" to stop doing something you don't like, you could have done a few steps differently :
1 disabled voice, sprays, etc. harassment would have probably continued on chat though, so 2 played on different servers 3 started your own server community (a stretch) 4 spoke with server admins of the server about the players I guess I'm trying to emphasize there is nothing the developers of the game could do for your personal problems here, and a few rotten people doesn't make it an entire community problem. the only people that could have changed it are the offenders, server administrators or you. with that said, some of those threads certainly could have been moderated better/sooner and I'm sorry to see you move on
