Jinx, the point is still the same. Regaurdlessof the "true" goths out there, the appeal of the subculture is individuality, and the people who gravitate towards it are generaly people who feel socially rejected seak arrogence as a means of defense.
Unfortuneately, it is a subculture. You can't be a true individual if you lock yourself in a room with people who look, act, talk and dress in ways greatly simaler, or even vaguely simaler to you. |

online gaming is a subculture too.
The appeal of the subculture isn't individuality, it's sociality. It's hanging out with people who have similar tastes and having a good time. Sure some people are pricks or elitists, but you have that everywhere. Look how mean the regulars here can be to someone new to the boards. I'm really getting sick of people who no nothing about this subculture telling me all about it. also, my other post was far more interesting fools |

jinx i wasnt talking about the kids at the mall, i was talking about the kids who frequent City Club (our goth/pseudo-industrial club) and the like. i call them kids not because of their ages, but because of their inability to engage on a conversation not concerning that subculture. as i said, the way people dress is not the main thing that bothers me. i have been to the clubs and stayed at peoples houses, got to know quite a few people on a basic social level. however, as soon as i strayed from topics concerning metropolis records or nuclear blast, conversation went flat.

ah. well, my experiences have been much more positive. to be honest, most industrial-types I know are total geeks and we spend more time talking about computers, video games, and sci-fi movies than anything else
oh, and thanks for getting us back on topic. lemme go find something nice to post now... |
