most importantly, their personalities. the majority of them (this is from my experience) are elitist assholes. once in a while you meet a really nice, open-minded one, but he/she happens to be dumb as a rock. i am not one to hold someone's ignorance, or even stupidity, against them, so these few are the few i can tolerate. and of course there are exceptions, the intelligent people with an open-minded personality, but finding one of them is muy dificil.
secondly, i think it is all a sham. they stress individuality, yet conform themselves to the "goth uniform." bright colors, pale skin, spiked collars, fishnets, glowsticks (some of the ravers got mad at ecstacy killing their amigos, so they went goth without totally giving up their beliefs), etc. all just seem so required. kinda like flare (Office Space), in order to be part of the club, you have to have a pre-requisite of at least 1 of each item. i could probably go on, but, due to time constraints, i must be leaving. TSO awaits. |

Skanky, it might please you to know that my brother, myself and 2 of our friends went to a club years ago (when this scene was starting) and beat the living hell outta a few of them.
Quite a hilarious brawl... they could barely fight back. |

Just about all of it is manufactured for profit, anyway. Sell your soul no matter which trend you follow. Gotta pave your own way if you're going to make a better tomorrow. Now, back on topic: |

and yeah Imbrifer, ive noticed it in all subcultures. the thing is, the majority of the other subcultures dont stress the individuality thing like this group does. it is that irony and (here is one for the angsty teens) hypocrisy that makes this group so annoying. yes, back to the topic indeed, that is a FANTASTIC ass. more of that please sir. |

The kids you see at the mall & HotTopic aren't goths, they are mansonite spooky kids.
Industrial is a club culture, so most people into it are in there 20's actually. Saying all goths etc. look alike is kinda like a white guy saying all blacks look alike. It's just a matter of you not being familiar enough to understand the distinctions. Also, dress is way over-emphasised by people on the outside. I'm DJing at a goth-industrial club, and I generally wear black boots, olive pants, and a plain black t-shirt. Not exactly uber-gawf-ind00strial or anything. What's nice about the subculture: lots of interesting people to talk to, and lots of great music. And when I go to a concert for an internationally popular industrial group, I can usually buy their cd -from them- at a table and chat with them a bit. So nice. |
