VR would be a nice cherry on top but I don't think the devs should focus heavily on it. I would love the game to look as awesome as possible but at the end of the day I would place more emphasis on gameplay. I have no idea how much extra work incorporating VR would be. Also creating a game is a massive project and the devs should beware feature creep.

I'd love to help in any way I possibly can. Probably the best I could do would be to edit video. If you guys wanted a trailer for the new game, I'd enjoy putting something together.

With VR, you start thinking about how to really make the player feel like they're there, and you can accurately test how it feels instead of relying on 2D monitors and whatnot. In doing so, it makes the non-VR modes even better too.
All right. I'll try to help with the VR angle / gameplay, as well as leveldesign like in the olden days

To the naysayers i say let's try it at least before dismissing it. If we're gonna make a new tfc / FF let's try to make it as broad as possible instead of an incremental step that will just reach / appeal to this current community. I agree we shouldn't have an impossible scope, but if we're gonna keep the scope too limited it's gonna be dead in the water upon release too. It should be "next gen" and jaw-dropping beyond this community.

well i can't help much on development other than testing but with me testing coh2 i might not be able to test as regularly as i would like.

but for when FF releases on steam we will/may see more users on the forum and may have need for another moderator and id be happy to volunteer my services for that.

This planning comes at an opportune time actually.

Given at least 3 years before we have a tenable product, it will be right around the time tf2 starts to wane.

Nobody else is working on a fortress game as far as we know. I'm excited for this.

The ability to move yourself and others around is more than enough for what a conc can do. Call it a "propulsion grenade" instead, and it can still do its job.

I'm shocked someone else even remembers Bridget.

Since when did we take anything Bridget said seriously? Wasn't he banned or something? I certainly don't miss it on skill maps, but argue the conc effect is a vital part of offense. Yes, the propulsion part of it is what matters more but I don't think you can discount the damage it can cause to an enemy defense. It's already been removed for handheld concs altogether, which most people use to get in and out of the base. So throwing down a conc would mean a deliberate attempt to conc the enemy in most cases and it'd make killing offense far more predictable.

If you want VR, then the "conc" effect simply won't work. Because nobody's about to make the headset jerk around with you inside it.

But VR does make gas grenades much more compelling IMO.

Just make sure it's got a large "rumble pack"(like the N64 had for their controllers) in the helmet. Problem solved.

Couldn't you just make the viewmodel and the aim move around while keeping the screen completely still?

I think that could still cause some heavy disorientation if you're trying to move your aim while the game is jerking it around.

Conc aiming is a skill that takes time and practice to master. Whats to say that moving the screen, or the viewmodel and aim wouldn't work, even if it is disorienting. Wouldn't it take practice and skill to be able to counter that disorientation and still aim?

You can't really say that the conc effect needs to be full on removed without even trying it.

We're talking about in relation to VR, as in disorientation on a face puking level. Like I said I could care less about VR, and I don't really think the conc effect should change at all. But if there is VR, the conc effect would be down right disgusting. Plenty of people have motion sickness problems just from playing slow paced games without VR.

i can see that indeed happening for instance with the old conc effect (the one before the current one) i was developing motion sickness every 5 seconds yea thats how often you get conc'd. had to look away from the screen it was so bad. why idk but whatever it was before sucked.

I'm curious if any of the weapon models are going to be salvaged and 'touched up' or if they're going to be scrapped and redesigned.

Thanks

Pretty much this. I would love a TFC remake with updated graphics, but it's going to need a lot more to establish a playerbase. The sandbox ideas are definitely a step in the right direction..

Haven't browsed this site in forever and couldn't have been any more surprised.

looks like a very ambitious project, that's for sure. Hopefully you guys manage to get together a strong team for the job.

I take it the idea just was born a few weeks ago so only a handful of guys are on board yet.

has the word been spread yet on social media? might be a good way to find and strengthen the team with a few motivated guys.

is it gonna be a kickstarter project as well?
