Yeah, it is. That's why lighters, matches, everything that uses a flame works. When you blow out a flame, you're displacing the oxygen in the immediate area with carbon dioxide, which isn't flammable.
Bottles of pure oxygen explode if exposed to a flame. Wikipedia discusses flame and its reliance on oxygen in depth. [Edited for accuracy] Last edited by o_etzell; 05-25-2006 at 11:50 PM. |

But when you use a lighter or match, the fuel is the gas/match isn't it?

Yeah, but they also require oxygen or something else that's flammable to stay lit.

...pending hammer not being fucked up (Yes I tried updating my video drivers).
Here's another screenshot from hammer showing how high poly the 3rd area is getting while you wait. (This is 72 displacements you're looking at, btw.) Have I ever mentioned how much I love displacements? |

From bird's perspective, that uphill looks... lofty. It's gotta be an illusion though.
You'll take on middle part last? |

Yea, I tried that but it didn't work. I may have accidentally had the SDK window open.
I'm gonna fiddle around with it today when I have more time. Is anyone else having this problem? |

Ok, I've got a question. I've never played in an AvD league, so I want to know if (in some or all said leagues) it was against official written rules for the defenders to push through the gates and run around on the offence side on dustbowl.
I know a lot of pub servers consider this 'going into your enemy's respawn' even if you don't go into the actual respawn room. In cacti, between parts 1 and 2, and between 2 and 3 there are 2 sets of gates with a sort of small no mans land in between. Both teams (ideally) are allowed to go in there, and I didn't really want any confusion from overzealous admins. Hopefully in FF you can make brushes that only one team can walk though, which would solve all our problems. |

The problem with that screenshot is that the displacements are all flat across the top, which I plan to fix eventually.
And bad news: I think the current bug with hammer causes the lighting to compile all screwy. Otherwise I'd have a screenshot of an almost-finished 3rd section. Nyah nyah! |

in adl there isnt much reason to be in the other teams spawn...
usually you have a demo/soldier/sniper near the command point and then some other guys up near where theyre gona be jumping from. usually a solider, hw, or engy are in there somewhere. more often than not, the main offensive strategy in adl is to jump the flag to the capture point, so its defended agisnt that. much different from pubs. |

As you have mentioned, pubs usually regard any defense pushing up into the offense's general spawning area as illegal. However, the STA-ADL league considers it legal to enter an enemy spawn, and most ADL players normally push into any part of a map without restriction.
