I don't have the side panels for my case. It's all open. No problems thus far.

From a cooling POV that's not a particularly good idea. Positive pressure is required for the best air cooling i.e. blowing in more air than you're sucking out.

just buy a nice roomy case and sort the airflow yourself.
It dosent have to be about size, at the end of the day its not ambient temperature that will up the temp of your hardware, its the hardware itself. All you need to do is get a decent airflow, use high quality fans and cooling equipment and the ambient will sort itself. I suggest you buy a case that you like the look of. |

I think it's a little weird, too, but I can't argue with results.

If it's running better then it's likely because your case has bad airflow. Either poor fans/not oriented properly or stuff blocking air flow (huge vid cards, power cables, etc)

Quick question... If a case is fitted for MicroATX, can a FlexATX fit into it? I didn't know if they had the same mounting positions or what. And anyone know of someone taking shuttle innards and moving it to a mid/mini tower type case? My current system is kinda loud and if I can get these crashes fixed, I might just move it over to a larger case (as the whole wanting a small case thing wore off really quick).

But then again, if I were into gaming hardcore, I'd definitely want a system to make people say wow. As long as it performed well enough to make people say wow also. Like Innoc said though, I'd rather have a plain-Jane system on the outside so that people will be amazed by what I accomplished on the inside. Its sleek, its professional, and most of all it doesn't bother me. Plus I get more satisfaction when its outperforming the dude next to me with the radioactive computer. [/edit] |
