You should try asking friends around for them to burn it to CD for you.
If you are a gamer, and if you have any friends, you should at least know some people with high speed connections, right?
I think I'll burn the demo for a friend or two of mine who aren't as privileged with a cable modem.

Find a good Torrent and it doesn't take that long. I found a good set of mirrors here as well:

Battlefield 2 Demo Mirrors

I tried the 4th mirror down and got over 150KB/Sec.

Ugh. What's with this lame account creation thing. I hate Gamespy. All I want to do is play online.

Sure, why not? Besides BF2, FF is the only other game I am planning on playing for a while as a substitute for my other 2 favorite hobbies...

I won't be. The Battlefield series is all right, but no matter how good your specs are, it's guaranteed to lag, and take eons when joining a server. My computer is fairly good (P4, 1 GB DDR, etc.) yet it took me a good 8 minutes to get onto a BF:V server.

yeah finding time to play or time that I "feel" like playing is hard to do. But I just bought this game the day after it was released, and I do have to say its awesome, def. something to keep me occupied while waiting for Age Of Empires III and Fortress-Forever to be released. Sucks that I have a GeForce 6800 GT 256 and I still can't set BF2 on very high graphics lol. Maybe in a few years there will be a card thats good enough and cheap enough to turn the graphics on full.

Good luck to anyone who doesn't have a pretty recent card...

This is why I hate the Battlefield series. The game hogs so many resources that no matter how good your computer is, at least one part of it will lag. It's because they seem to need the equivalent of half the tropical rainforest's foliage in each level.

haha, I love the way the game looks, and I don't mind that it taxes the hell out of my card, but what I CANT STAND is the shitty ass in-game server browser. It blows. I'm waiting for gamespy's version to come out, and HOPEFULLY it will be easier to use. Hell, they don't even have a favorites list so you can find your favorite servers, and blah. I don't even need to say anything else about it, it just pisses me off :P

Ican't stop playing it! The one thing I wish is that they would allow you to use the 64 player maps in single player. The fact that there aren't bots makes it so I can't make a 64 player LAN either. Oh well, still woops ass!

Hmm, I'm not sure how good the 6800 GT is versus my x800XL, but I was able to turn all the graphic settings to their highest at 1024x768 (with Medium Anistropic filtering, and 2x AA) and still got very good FPS. I probably could go to a higher res, but it doesn't look jagged with the AA, and 1024x768 is the highest res my monitor can do 85 Hz at.

I guess I'd feel more sorry for the people that have 512 or less MB of ram, or a slow hard drive, since even with my 10,000 RPM SATA drive, level loading is not speedy.

Yeah that kinda sucks. My guess is that running that many bots would be too much of a strain on the engine. Though it's not like the BF bots are that smart...

sorry to bring up an old thread, but i got it today after being solidly addicted to the demo - the demo servers were virtually lag free, but the retail servers are UNPLAYABLE :(

does anyone else get this?

I've noticed a lot of variability on this. BF2 hits the server hard, and I think a lot of the server hosts just aren't giving it enough power/bandwidth. Also, most of the other maps are more complicated than the map included in the demo. Plus the game's got a tons of bugs, which were actually made worse after the patch + hotfix.

So, basically, if you can find a good server, and you have some luck, you can get a near lag-free gameplay experience. Otherwise, enjoy the slide show :P
