did you ever try ff_gamemodes? it's a command in the console, an overlooked, in development command, that was probably left in by accident. boot up FF and type in ff_gamemodes.

I use two spaces after my periods! But alas, this forum does not allow two consecutive spaces :( |

That's HTML's fault, not the forum's.

Make them as realistic as possible PLZ
Having bots in FF is a wonderful idea...however, they should be realistic as possible to RL peeps. In this way, you can have a great FF experience ANYTIME U WANT, especially in times where you can't have Internet or whatever, or that if you wanted to practice your skills before fighting others!
Scripts would have to be very detailed and meticulous, and should be consistent with the class and corresponding map. Engineers, for example, would just hang around the base to-and-fro close to where he built his SG, or snipers would be finding various vantage points to go snipe. You can only go so far with it but it would be nice. The bot concept is nothing new, but with a Team Fortress game, it's sure to be a handful of challenges to work with. |

I don't think if I've ever posted something similar, but please, PLEASE, let them miss sometimes, aka no "perfect aim". It sucked to play against a Sniper bot in TFC. Oh, and also not seeing through Spies disguises every single time =o
Advanced tactics would be great too - rjumps, concs, etc. but this can come later I guess. |

I think Dr_Evil can handle it, although he's mentioned concjumps and such might be a pain without giving them explicit instructions to do it.

Wow. I just found this place and realized that tfc was coming back. I played tfc since the beginning. Sice dustbowl wasnt even a map yet. and since people didnt know how to shoot a flying player in the air or even consider holding on the a grenade to hh jump. I remember when two fort was a confusing map and that rocket jumping into its battlements was hard.
seven, eight, nine years later and i know every inch, crevas, coorador and possible hh, nade, conc, rocket, and det pack jump there is. and you damn be sure not to get in the air when i have a full payload of rockets. and i did NOT learn all this from bots. I remember joining a server with noone in it just to learn a map. i would rocket jump from place to place just to see where i could go. then a few minutes later someone would show up. we would talk about strategies--where and when to rjump or hh. where to put the det pack on palermo so you could launch a hw to the second command point from the first. the timing on hhing. how to run as a spy so people wouldnt notice you. again i did NOT learn this from bots. the greatest thing about tfc is not its realism (to quote a recent avi i watched) and its not how simple it is to figure out. if i wanted that i would play rainbow six or halo. the greatest thing about tfc was learning, mulching, playing skill maps, and applying all that with all hell breaking loose around you. at first i though bots were pretty cool too. but then i noticed that i couldnt find a server where i could play with one maybe two people and just fuck around. they even put bots in mulch_dm maps. I mean COME ON whats the point of a bot in a one v one deathmatch. Im new to these forums and to fortress forever. but tfc was apart of my life for somewhere around eight years. i found it more than neccessary for this to be my first post. so PLEASE do not make bot programs for this game. do it for the newbs. do it for the vets. for god sake do it for the children. |
