Right, going back to the topic: I have to say I was VERY disappointed with HL2. Some points that put me off: * Shit texture quality (usage of detailed textures wouldn't have hurt the game Mr. Gabe) * Shit story, heck, NO STORY (Gordon go here, tele kaput, gordon go there by foot, dad st0led, gordon go save him) * Bugs (You'd reckon VALVe would've completely ironed out any bugs during that one year delay, GUESS NOT) * Shit engine (Sure the physics are cute, but physics alone doesn't cut it VALVe) * Shit loading times (I'm blaming this one on steam) * Shit AI (I recall VALVe mentioning this in the E3, it's supposed to be good, it ain't) And this is just HL2, I need not to mention what I think of CS:S. /me hides behind a flame-proof rock (not that there are rocks which aren't flame proof) Travis Dane...are you f-ing kidding me...if you really meen this then get the **** out of the ff forums cause then according to you these textures must suck, and so must the physics since it uses the same havoc engine... Your just a simple minded ARGHHHHHH i cant even say it. just leave these forums and never return again! |

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but really, after five years I hoped for something more than that. As for the textures, I'm sorry, but they really were shit. Seeing as even HL1 had support for decent detailed textures, it is silly they didn't put any in HL2. Getting real upclose to a texture exposes some serious bilinear filtering . As for Doom3, well, Doom3 has lightning going for it, HL2 really needs to get a lot of it's beauty from textures. Quote:

Riiiiiggghhhtttt. Since Travis Dane doesn't like the game it MUST suck. And the millions of people who love it and gave out awards to it must ALL be wrong. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Well hl2 is definitely not as good as hl1. The reason being, no puzzles. I remember in hl1 spending alot of time trying to figure out how to get to the next point in the game, where in hl2 it was laid out way too easy. And for the story line, i liked 1 much more because atleast, we all knew how Gordon got into the situation. In part 2, who knows what the heck is going on :P Also, I think hl2 overused the vehicles. Vehicles are a good addition, but for god sake you were in a vehicle for half the game lol. And, hl2 was TOOO repititious. I guess without the puzzles it just seem like, kill some soldiers go to next area, kill some soldiers, go to next area, kill some soldiers, ect. It's Wolfenstein 3d with good graphics, except W3d was much more fun because it had more puzzle LOL. Heck, i was starting to hope it'd end 2/3 through the game. Finally, hl2 didnt have as many mini bosses and HL1. I mean by mini bosses, creatures much stronger then the rest, just to make that area real challenging. Only miniboss i can think of in hl2 was the larger insect bug thingy. Anyways, HL2 to me was a big let down. But then again i'm comparing it to one of the best games i've played.
Now with all that negative said. I do think it was a decent game. And the graphics were awesome, and w/ well placed theme music throughout the game. It just wasn't the type of game i'm looking for. I enjoy games where you place thought into it, and this is not one of them. Anyways, to all each own. |

My only complaints about HL2 is the length, lack of real alien enemies, the lack of a bunch of guns, the lack of a real boss battle, and the lack of BIG puzzles. Sure, there were a few small ones, but those were all to show off the physics engine. All of the weapons except maybe the pulse rifle seemed as if they were just weapons you used when you couldn't find enough junk for the gravity gun to use.
However, the last level was insanely fun. |

I guess that's true. The vehicles WERE way overused. I woulda liked a lot more on-foot action. Although there were some awesome bossish parts. When you get to that hideout and the troopers drop in, or the strider fighting in the plaza.

I cried when I had to leave the airboat behind. Not really, but it was still an emotional moment!
Later, I cheated and got the gravity gun. I was able to push the airboat ALL THE WAY to that small doorway in the fence leading to Ravenholm (right after Dog lets you through the big door). My point is that I quite enjoyed using the vehicles. I also cried when those combine hauled my jeep away. But not really. |

The first time I got there, I parked my buggy too far away from the crane. Stupid antlions.

I miss Black Mesa, the US military, the assasins and above all, the aliens in HL2.
In hl 1 you had headcrabs, zombies, alien slaves, barnacles, houndeyes, bullsquids, alien grunts, tentacles, ichtyosaur, snarks, alien controllers, big momma, Gargantua, baby headcrabs.... half of the aliens is not in HL2, and the Slaves are allies now Even the snarks are not added. That was a big dissapointment for me. Opposing Force added the Shock Trooper, pit drone, zombie grunt, barney zombie, shock roach and voltigore to this list of alien enemies. NONE of the Opposing Force enemies shows up in HL2! I hope some people will make a mod for source that includes all the original aliens someday. Half-Life 2 has too many battles with humans/humanoids. Quote:
The graphics were great, but there is a great lack of enemies. HL2 had about 13 enemy types if u place the Combine in Police and Military groups. HL1 had about 16(but there were several grunt types). OP4 added 5 aliens and 1 human(enemies), the male assassin. This brings the amount of enemies in an official addon(not a custom mod) to 22. And the 13 hl2 enemies were mostly combine, and its the aliens that would give a halflife feeling. Conclusion: Half-Life 2 has great graphics, makes great use of the Havok 2 physics engine, has great leveldesign but it has a lack of classic weapons and alien characters. Also the levels don't feel like Half-Life. The physics& grahpics are really great and it would be really cool to play TFC:S or FF or any other TFC based mod with them, but HL2 itself should have more aliens, and also levels on the alien homeplanet Xen. Overall score: 92% |

If HL2 was so much like the original it wouldn't have been nearly as fun.
It was well crafted, in not just physics, but in gameplay. The game once again became revolutionary and is setting standards for games to come. That's a damn hard thing to do. Beggars can't be choosers. I'm damn proud of the game, I find it amazing, and more fun than that first. |

Yeah it's still amazing, and i know its revolutionary, but still.... i miss Xen
Xen with physics and great textures would have been lots better than City17, even though City17 looks damn great. Oh and i forgot that the Xen Trees should be in the enemy list too Maybe they will include some of the classic monsters in Hl3 Who knows, we'll see. |

I thought the Xen levels were pretty cool...But I thought the final boss of HL1 was absolute crap. Wait, for a refresher...what WAS that thing? And apparently killing it didn't actually DO anything?

Though, it was better than the nutsack with eggs. Damn HL1 bosses. |
