I think you should stick to the original idea of midair2...and not have more platforms. This is midair2, if they want more than one platforms, have them map it. Instead of "forgetting it", fix what needs to be fixed:
* improve environment - walls / roof / nature * textures * lighting! too dark * architecture - make it sexier good luck and keep with the original idea - but make it pretty! |

I think it's great that you're doing small maps since you're just starting as a mapper and jumping on a big project would be stupid but I think it's silly to post so many small and ugly maps in a short period of time.
If you feel you're still at the beginning of the experimental process and want to fuck around for a couple minutes and be able to trash your work afterward and not lose sleep over it, fine, but you don't have to post every of your experiment. If you're at the point where you think you're comfortable enough with hammer to start a real project, then you should find a map you'd really like to make, be it midair or any other as long as it's a small one, and focus on making it as great as possible. Work on it a couple of days at least or as long as it takes to make it look interesting and then start a thread about it to let us see your super work. |

Well Ive thought about it and im leaving this map as is, for now. And yest there has been many other small maps have made, its just the fact that this is one of the very few that was the least bit forum worthy. But today I realized, why not go start work on my first map again, ff_bingobango. I have finished the outside, brush and texture, but im waiting until I get some inside done before I add any more pictures.

Skipping page three.
Looks like you're taking ideas from midair-tfc_sam, which was much better. Google up some pics, as I'm lazy. But basically, you had godmode while touching the floor, and whenever you were off of it, it went away. Also, it was in a building kind of place, but there was clipping around the sides, so you HAD to get airshots to kill people. This wouldn't be hard to do with entities, and probably easy with Lua. I look forward to seeing progress with the map. Try putting some trigger_hurt about 20 feet below the platform so people don't have to fall too far . To the people bitching about the map, just gtfo. You are NOT wanted or needed in this thread if you can't post constructive criticism. Go grow some fucking balls ffs. |

If I were to rate myself on a scale of 1-10, I'd probably go with like a 3. I am great with structure and detail, but I'm horrible at texturing. Unfortunately that's a huge part of mapping!
Of course I've only done like 3 maps, of which I have nothing to show for them. They got lost in time. I made 2 duel maps, my first attempts at mapping. The duel maps helped me get familiar with entities. And then I moved on to a full scale map. The first draft was quite terrible, but it definitely made me feel good that I actually made a real map. Anyways, this isn't my thread, sorry for the rant. /me ends rant. As someone said earlier, its good that you are starting small. Midair should be a good starting point for you! Good luck! |
